River dropping slowly with a tinge of colour. Finicky bites and a few fish landed. Lovely day to be out, good beer and food in the Comet Inn, looking forward to coming back to the Wye in the summer. Thanks WUF.

A lovely afternoon trotting for dace. The fish were in fin perfect condition. In between the trotting the ledger rod failed to find the chub (or barbel). Will be back in the Winter looking for pike.

Very disappointed with the pegs. My son spent the first hour and half clearing a way through the undergrowth.

A nice looking stretch of river, straight and fairly deep, although it does become shallower towards the top end. I’m sure the stretch has potential but was unable to find out as ninety per cent or more is unfishable.
The details for the stretch make reference to extensive bank clearance in 2011, if it took place there is little evidence of it now. It’s not that the banks are overgrown, more that the banks are very steep and if any steps have been cut they are now so overgrown that they can’t be found. The owner needs to be aware that some sort of regular bank maintenance is required. Also a new WUF parking sign needs placing in the car park as the existing piece of paper in the plastic bag is wet and hanging on by one corner. I wasn’t even sure I was in the correct place until I found it blowing in the wind.
As for the fishing, I did find a couple of places to get down to the water, the river was very low and clear. Unfortunately I didn’t have a bite, but given the low water I wasn’t too surprised. May have caught in some of the deeper swims, but as already mentioned was unable to get down the bank.
Given everything above I did enjoy the day, it’s such a peaceful and lovely stretch of water. With a little work I’m sure good catches be taken in autumn and winter, some lovely looking trotting water that would produce some good Chub catches.
Despite everything I’ve written, I would consider returning in the autumn.
PS Did see a couple of Salmon jump!!!

River low and clear. Ground bait feeders and bait droppers used throughout day in a number of swims but mainly mid stretch. Variety of baits including pellets, meat, bread. Unfortunately the fish were having none of it - one chub around 4lb was the sum total for the day though a couple of tentative takes were missed. In common with many other areas of the Wye the fishing would appear to have not switched on yet. No worries, enjoyable day and better out than in as they say.

First visit to this stretch of the river and we were both impressed with the work that has been carried out for access to what is a very uniformed deep section of river. We walked the whole stretch and agreed the best way to tackle the venue would be to fish swims next to each other moving to the next one up after a couple of hours until we located the fish. Each swim looked likely to hold fish with some very good far margin cover but finding feeding fish was to be very hard. It turned out to be an enjoyable but very hard day moving swims and playing with rigs and bait trying to catch something. Towards the top of the stretch KB did manage to land the only fish of the day in the shape of a very nice 8lb barbel which was a nice reward for the effort he put in.
