First time fishing at Goodrich Court. Fished The Maddox with the fly with the water was quite coloured. Used a fast sinking line and 2" orange and yellow poly tube which dragged the bottom a bit. Just at the end of the Maddox pool at 9.30 I caught a hen fish of about 12lb, about 6ft from the bank in the slack water. Nice and silver but no lice on her. Will be back soon for what is some lovely fly water.

A stunning stretch of river, but achingly low. Needs a good flush through to wake it up. The Maddox is just mouth watering and I really didn't want to leave. This salmon fishing thing gets inside your brain doesn't it? Not a touch this time, but I'll be back.

Clear water around 1ft on Llanstephan gauge and rising in rainy and windy day. 1 Kelt from Vanstone, fresh fish circa 12lbs leaping in the same pool but no take on fly, tried spinner and landed 2 (12 and 20lbs est) pike instead. A few trout and 2 fat chub from the upper part but no salmon caught or seen there. Cracking beat, can’t wait for another visit here. Thank you.

Lovely beat, I fished it from end to end from both banks where possible. The river is very low, water 10`C and very clear -even a Hover/Intermediate was too much with lightweight flies snagging constantly on many pools, so I think badly in need of water. No sign of salmon over two days, interesting wildlife, a huge hatch which the chub loved, and a Kingfisher by the corner tree pool. The only disturbing of the tranquility were the canoes. Showers starting as I left at lunchtime. Many thanks to WUF-highly efficient.

Very low water on a cloudy day. This cloud eventually lifted by about 1pm to turn the day into a sunny, bright afternoon. Fished a fair amount of the beat with the fly, but didn't have a touch from any salmon. Used the spinner in a few of the pools as well, and managed to interest a couple of Pike and one large chub. Didn't see any signs of salmon, which was disappointing. Rain needed.

Yet again a beautiful day! Got down to the river early(ish) and both of us started working our way down from the middle of the beat (Maddox), leap frogging down the the Vanstone Pool. BB watched RC tighten into a fish from between the Corner Tree and Vanstone. Hard to tell if it was a large trout or small kelt as it shook free after a brief time. After much casting from BB a 31" kelt was taken from the Vanstone Pool. Random tactic.....cast full length across and pay out line to get really deep in the current. While the fish was in the margins but still fighting, a large shape was following...I believe it was the 41" Pike taken on a previous trip last week! Big whatever with the same missing tip to it's tail. Landed before the impending doom.
BB hooked a kelt of considerable size from the very top of the Maddox in front of the concrete block but lost it.
All quiet in the afternoon until BB hooked a Springer on the fly from the Island. After a cracking fight of 15mins it was netted by RC. Measuring 37" it was estimated at 22lbs. No Sea Lice but the scars from them had stared to heal. Been in the system a while.
RC had many more pulls during the afternoon but none stuck.
All in all a great day..
