We had a most enjoyable day, but only a very well-mended kelt for our efforts caught on a conehead fly in the Vanstone Pool. A very nice part of the Wye to spend a days salmon fishing.

We had a nice days fishing but only a well mended kelt to show for our efforts caught on a cascade conehead. Look forward to fishing Goodrich Court again if only for the surroundings.

No springers, but 2 x well-mended kelts 33 inches and 38 inches, both on Black and Yellow tube fished off fast sink tip. I used to know the lower part of this beat as Middle Hill Court, but the upper part was unknown to me. The whole mile makes an excellent combination with enough water to keep you busy all day, whether fly-fishing or spinning. Plus it's a beautiful and quiet bit of river, what with the castle in the distance and wheeling buzzards, except for the very top where the A40 makes itself heard. I didn't see one canoe - is that some kind of record?

Caught 2 well-mended kelts between 10.30am and 2.30pm.
The second a beautiful fish of about 16lbs - very silvery. Lovely day out, nice beat.

No fish caught - despite the bonanza the day before - another case of should have been here yesterday. Had a couple of possible offers in the Stones/Island on the upper portion. A few fish seen moving elsewhere. Some lovely fly water here, I'll certainly be back.

First time to Goodrich Court and what a day! Conditions were overcast with a cool wind. No sign of movement for the whole day, however we managed to take 2x12lb and 2x8lb fish all fresh runners and in great condition from the "The V" and "The Corner Tree". 1 to the fly and 3 to the spinner. An excellent day and as always great guidance from the WUF team. Thanks.

A good day out on the river. Two kelts caught, both well mended, plus a very sharp pull. The kelts came one each from the Electric Wires and Maddox while the pull was in the Vanstone pool.
I fished a 1.5 inch brass tube black and yellow on an intermediate line and a fast sink 5ft poly leader.
Very good car access to the river and the bottom half of the beat is easily fished. The top few pools are a little hard to access with overgrown banks and at the water height today (approx 11'') a tad awkward to get into the water. But, an excellent day out, some superb fly water and lots of very active water foul preparing for nesting. Perhaps spring really is on the way?

Missed the best of the weekend's weather and the fish seemed to agree. Interesting and very varied beat, although I confined my attentions to the lower section from The Windmill down to Corner Tree. No action to speak of and with a cold strengthening wind and driving rain, it was more like Patagonia than Herefordshire! Will return...
