River was probably still a tad high for the fly (11" on the gauge at Fownhope on Thursday night). However, I had a lovely day, certainly the best of the Easter weekend weatherwise, and it was good to blow away the casting cobwebs.
I also took the services of Mick (the Ghillie), who I couldn't recommend highly enough, particularly if on your first visit to the fishery. Lovely guy and knows the beat inside out.

No sign of a salmon but had a great day and will definitely be back when the level has dropped a little.
Thanks to Mick the gillie who was excellent.

Enjoyable day's fishing, despite no salmon showing and slightly high water. Mick the Ghillie, knows every stretch of this water, and his knowledge and advice could make the difference between a successful day or not. I look forward to returning when the water is a little warmer!

Would be helpful if a gillie was present to show the pools, wading line, and main lies.
On booking I understood a gillie would be their just to show the pools. Quite a difficult water to read when high, and you'v never fished it before. Also no other fishers to ask.
On the booking page I understood a gillie was present, not so, this comes at extra cost, I think this should be made clear. I fished the Monday alone, and on Tuesday with 2 lads, they also had same problem, and told me they were told a gillie would pop down to show us the beat.
WUF Note: Goodrich Court's gillie is quite often present at the fishery but is not guaranteed to be there every day. Both the website and details received once a booking is made state that anglers either have to call the Foundation or the gillie himself to ensure that he is on hand to give advice and guidance.

First time on this beat. Shown the water by the affable resident ghillie Mick which was much appreciated. Tried the fly and spinner through the day but without any luck. Beautiful spot, great water. Must return soon!

At 6 degrees C river was warmer than the 4 degree C air temperature. River a bit high for any wading but very pleased with thermals and neoprene for the little wading done. Very interesting beat well cared for, with taking spots at all heights well explained, by Mich. Looking forward for session later in season. If I were a salmon I think I would keep my head down deep or even stay in the sea at 8 degree C.

Cloudy cold 6C weather, cloudy grey green cold 40F water, 1'5" Fownhope gauge, falling very slowly. Fly fished Stones, Doghole, Gabions, Upper Lines, Maddox, Corner & Vanstone with 1.5" & 1.0" brass tubes on fast sinking lines. No touches or sightings of fish. Will be back when water warms up and is a little lower after next spate in April. A good beat.

To fish the beat without Mick would be like eating cheese without the biscuits, bread without the jam. A fabulous day, water a bit high and far too cold but expected a pull in every pool thanks to Micks guidance.Thank you again.

First visit to Goodrich Court, tried spinning with flying C, mepp and Devon minnow to no avail. Didn't see any fish whatsoever. Water level and clarity was good, cold gusty Easterly wind only down side. Thoroughly enjoyed the day. Look forward to visiting later in the season. Used the Hostelrie at Goodrich for overnight stay, superb food and accomm.
