Blank. Still pretty high water today, so rather reluctantly opted to spin. Nothing to report except for one very large pike which followed the spoon in to the bank on Corner Tree. It's very nice to see some maintenance done now, so that pools are properly accessible. By the way, there is currently a problem getting into the entrance of the beat. The road from Walford is blocked off, and if you follow the diversion all the way round the block to the Ross side, you come across workmen engaged in digging drainage trenches across the road there. Necessary to negotiate access with these guys or, after working hours, move their "closed" sign aside. This will all be completed in a few days apparently.

Fishing during an eclipse was an experience... even more so when a fish took the fly. Unfortunately, it was one of those on and off moments lasting 10 seconds or so. I would hazard it was a pike rather than a fish by the strength and characteristics of the take, but still an exciting moment.
The water was rather too high for the beat, but a good day out in some welcome sunshine. Good to see some maintenance on the beat in recent times.

Good day but river still a little high for the fly. Lot of work going into maintenance of the beat. Thank you to Mick for his helpful guidance. Will certainly book again when river down a bit. Can't wait!

Wonderful fishery! The best kept salmon water on the Wye for me. No jungle warfare thanks to Mick the ghille who has strummed and cleared the pools and made it a much safer place to fish! Thank you for all your hard work and dedication. This is a good model for other fisheries to follow as the steep banks need more secure steps and footholds and ropes and secure stakes to help us up and down.
The fly water was amazing. I was able to chest wade at least 4 of the 11 pools. Saw a salmon show in the Gabions.
Caught a 7 lb pike at the end of the day.

Great conditions (water level falling, stones at Maddox exposed), little wind and overcast - but no fish. Put spinner through all morning, then fly in the pm. Touched a couple of fish but suspect they were kelts at bottom of Maddox, near RH bank.
Fished The Windmill from LH bank with fly in late pm, right through to Maddox - excellent fly water with shooting head to get the distance.

Water still a little high for fly fishing at 2'5" on the Fownhope gauge, although water clarity was fine. Met Mick the gillie who has carried out some great work on the beat during the close season and he offered some very helpful advice. In the morning JC had a good salmon follow his lure right in to the bank in The V. In the early afternoon CJ hooked a good fish in the neck of the Windmill, only for it to throw the single hook flying C at the net. A strong bright silver fish estimated to be mid teens. No fish landed but a promising start to the season on a glorious spring day.

Sunny, blustery day for first of season. Tried both spinner and fly but no luck - sun out and water high & coloured. Fly fishing well from right bank at Windmill though.
