No salmon touched all day. Conditions were good but there was a procession of canoes for most of the period I fished (10:00 to 16:00) but the canoists were all well behaved.
It did give me an excuse to change flies while they went past me. I think I tried every style and size I had in my box. I will try this beat again next year but not at the weekend.

Fished for 12 hours. Had a couple of good pulls both in Vanstone so was in the game but didn't come to anything. Few fish showing in Vanstone both early and late. Last time I was there I wrote that pool notes were wrong about the hight that left the stones in the Maddox exposed. On further examination I think one of the stones has been displaced by the floods. Explored upper half of beat more. There is a surprisingly large amount of nice fly water up there and it's not so hard to access. Pool markers would be helpful though.

R O-Jo had a 12.5 lb slightly coloured fish from the Vanstone at 12.30pm on a size 6 Alley variant. J L had a 5 lb coloured grilse from Maddox at 5.30pm on a size 6 Cascade and earlier lost a good silvery fish about 100m above the electric lines on a size 8 Arndilly Fancy. All on sink tips.
An excellent day. Recent clearance of bank vegetation on the lower pools is very helpful. Despite WUF's excellent pool notes, it's difficult to find the entry and exit points for the upper pools. Some marker posts and clearance of paths through the jungle would make a big difference to fishability of the upper pools.
