No salmon caught, only 1 chub. Really enjoyed the day will return again.

Nil return.

Three salmon hooked briefly, three more pulls. Nothing landed. Only three fish showed all day.

Nil caught. Hooked a good fish by the Pylon swim, lost after a couple of minutes, not really sure why! Fished early, river rising and coloured. Should have thought more about fishing on a Sunday in August, with significant volume of canoes coming down the river.

We enjoyed our day here. One of our party hooked two fish on the fly, the first at the tail of the Windmill and second on the Island Pool. This beat has great potential but much of the upper part was difficult to access and at times hazardous to wade.
It would be helpful if the house at the top of the beat was added to the beat map for reference so that one can pinpoint The V and The Dog Hole in relation to the house. It would require a lot of extra work but proper entry and exit points to the holding pools would be helpful and improve safety. At one point I couldn't wade back up river or any further down and couldn't get out. It took fifteen minutes to figure out a safe exit.
It might also be useful to have a gauge on the beat with relative wading options in the notes. All work requires funding I know but it would transform this beat into a top salmon fishing venue.

One small pike on fly.

Opted to concentrate on the Vanstone beat. Began with an early session from 6am and promptly landed a Pike of approx 10lb to a blue/silver devon minnow around 7am which was quietly returned to the water, but no Salmon catch to report. Returned again around 5.30pm for an evening session, lots of fish moving but no takers.
But an enjoyable day with some dry weather for once.

This is a lovely stretch of water, however despite trying various lures no fish caught, probably because I arrived there later than intended and it was a hot, sunny day. This was my first booking through the Wye and Usk Foundation and I have found the organisation and service quite impressive.

Fished left bank only. River still a little high and coloured. However I fished the fly as I much prefer it to spinning. No luck so switched to Flying c and after a few casts just below top steps of the Vanstone a salmon took but only stayed on about one minute!
Am putting in a plea for better access to the top pools on the beat as I would dearly like to follow in Pashley's footsteps!
