Nymphs in fast water accounted for the trout. Fished 2/3 of the beat down from the waterfall at the upper limit. Insects in great numbers all day with clouds of what looked like midges over the fastest water, but only glimpsed one rise. Briefly switched rods and put a duster then a F Fly over the spot. No joy.

Feels like winter this high up the river. Chilly start but warmed up. Dries and nymphs.

I thought it would be difficult and it was. Sun all day and low water had one take during a short rise and missed it.

Two upper Usk beauties on nymph from very thin water. Nothing seen rising, minimal fly hatching. Cold easterly

Full flood following previous heavy rains. Dark water with lots of leaves and debris carried in strong currents. Couple of feet maximum visibility in water. Blue dun hatch but taking nothing, wet nor dry.

The river was very coloured further down but this beat seemed just about fishable.Very slow though with no takes over a few hundred yards before I had some interest in one pool. Caught on a peeping caddis pattern and a gold bead PTN.
Lots of interesting water. Will return.
