We were fishing the beat with droppers and euronymphing. Great weather and some minor hatches and rises.
Caught a couple of 40cm trouts with others being in the 20-25 cm size.
Beautiful beat and part of the river

Cold downstream wind and plenty of water in the river made for very tough days fishing and no fish caught.

A similar story to yesterday, save that I managed to catch a feisty 14”er on nymph during the morning. The hatch when it finally started was no more than a trickle and failed to bring fish to the surface, save for two which I discovered in quieter water above the confluence. The first I rose but only pricked. The second was caught after a change of fly and was much chunkier than the rise form suggested, a beautifully marked 15”er. I share the views of other anglers about the restricted access to this beat. The use of barbed wire is both excessive and unsafe. Otherwise, another lovely day courtesy of the WUF.

All fish caught on nymphs in the morning. 2 x 12”, 2 x 15”, 1 x 18”. Waited patiently for March Browns or LDO’s but the cold wind kept them on the river bed.

Cold downstream wind and little fly life meant fishing weighted nymphs, resulting in a nice 1.25lb Trout. Around 3pm there was a brief hatch of March Browns and Olives which brought some fish up, switched to Wet Fly and managed another nice fish of 1.5lb.

Saturday night accommodation was just up the road at the Usk & Railway Inn - highly recommend, excellent food and hospitality

Not a rising fish to be seen with only a small amount of fly life. All fish taken on nymphs. Nothing over a pound in weight

It’s a lovely beat, me only issue with it, is the owners love for Barbed Wire on the gates. It’s really quite difficult to get over the main access gate without ripping your waders

Fished for a couple of hours in the early afternoon. 3 brown trout, on nymphs, between us. Very nice spot which we will return to.

Word of warning that there is a lot of barbed wire on the gates/styles on this beat.
