Granted there are no bad days on the river. But today came close: hard work for little reward. The river had a low, glassy and clueless look and the weather was warm and windy, occasionally wildly so. There were precious few fish about. Even the places that had been generous back in May seemed void of life. I did register a couple of bumps on the nymphs and did finally land one, again on a nymph right up the top of the beat.

Tough fishing with low and clear water. Fish very spooky and far between. Caught one small brown off the top which was great!

Quick couple of hours in the evening in squarly conditions.

3 trout caught between us all on dry fly. Trout (unsurprisingly) holding up in the deeper runs.
Worth noting that this beat is extremely varied in its water and wading- exceptional, but difficult wading and accent to the river.
We are two fit and healthy 30something year olds, and it wasn’t easy, both of us slipped and fell a couple of times. Would seriously recommend taking a friend along with you to fish this beat, as despite its location high in the catchment, it’s still large enough to share (and safer)

Fished on the evening ticket and just for the last couple of hours as the sun dipped low on the Beacons.
Water temp 19c so just about doable but nothing moving at all , no spinner at all late on or sedge and even the quarry pool didnt have its usual sippers . Tough times eh.
The water was quite fishable in the runs still and the wading was fine , no slime/algae and the river bed looking fine still where there was moving water.
The very considerate farmer there has now erected a stile at the entrance gate by the road and covered the barbed wire with sacking . Always used to be a bit of a wobble here !Splendid chap!
Also, he has taken the barb wire of the gates within the fields.
A nil return but always a real pleasure to be here.
