Lovely day, and great to be back at the river. Waited and waited for a fly hatch, but none came. Just a few isolated flies, a couple of which wee taken by trout. But not mine!

It was good to find all the gates open, apart from the barbed wire-topped beat entrance. The knotted twine holding the gate to its post is virtually impossible to untie.
This gate is a potential health and safety issue. It has to be climbed and continues to present a threat to less nimble anglers (and to fishing waders). Can Wuf come to a better and safer arrangement? The system used at Gromain accessing Dolmeudwy, a coded padlock, is safe and works well.

Beautiful day to be on the river. A chilly start with frost in the shade. LDO and midge tricked off all day, a few caddis from
1pm, the odd stonefly and a brief hatch of March brown. Despite this I didn’t see any fish rising although another angler on the beat had a few risers during the MB hatch.
3 trout all to the nymph.

Fished dry fly and nymph, upstream. There were few LDOs and March Browns comin off, but I only saw one rising trout. A strong cold wind from about 13:00. Water temperature 10C
First day out this seson and though no fish caught it was good to be back on a river.

River was very low and it was cold. We fished from 11am to 6pm and caught two trout both around 10 inches.

All caught on French leader style nymph, plenty of water bowling through but still clear enough. Heavy showers most of the afternoon. Nothing over 11 “ but nice to be fishing again after the drought.
