Cooler than of late, cloudy, some showers and a consistent downstream breeze. Fished from lower limit up to the Cilieni confluence. Surprisingly sparse in terms of rising fish, particularly in the Quarry pool. Didn’t switch to dry flies until reaching the Junction pool where two or three trout were consistently rising on the far side. One trout on heavy nymph in fast water at top of Quarry and one off the top in Junction. Plenty of shade all the way up from heavily tree lined banks helps create a cooling effect on this beat.

Very low now not surprisingly ( 0.2 m on the Trallong gauge ) and very clear but it was useful now to scope out the river bed & now see it is predominately flattish bedrock runs below quarry pool . Moved a few fish though on a largeish black klink.
Quarry pool is now a bit of a glassy mill pond & a decent number of fish (smallish?) topping at times and guessing they where on aphids so left them to it! The run in to the pool is lovely but a spied a pesky mink working the water along the bank so that didnt help! Said mink then paddled across the river to my bank , then spied me and swam back across again fully submerged,I didnt know they could do that!
The junction pool is really lovely but very slow now so sat on it quietly hoping for some spinner or sedge action in the evening. A decent number of fish started moving here and there in the last hour of light but on what I dont know ! Couldnt crack the code in time before they switched off but a nice bar of Usk bronze (nothing big & on a v small tan klink) took pity & saved me from getting skunked when the bats came out . Such graceful things on the wing to stand and watch.
A couple of big fish moving in the tail too but they where having none of it ! Next time....
Wading was still good overall but some slime in the bankside slack water now and is quite greasy.
Such a lovely place here , very picturesque with a really nice wild feel to it all.

A quick reccie session in the evening before going off to check in at the campsite (Pwylln farm btw, & can highly recommend!) and wanted to check out the stretch I hadnt fished before above the old farmhouse and up to the waterfall boundary.
Low water for sure and generally a bit of a bedrock shute for a short way but the waterfall area is lovely in all ways .
Didnt move any fish to a search dry but sure there must be some here somewhere!
The back of the famhouse has a deepish but reasonably slow gutter . Could fish well at the right time?
Access along the bank/river was fine.

Fished on an evening ticket to avoid the high heat of the day and had a really lovely few hours.
I thought this was a fantastic beat ! I only got up to the back of the farm way but from the downstream limit up to the farm it was all really very fishy looking and highly fishable , casting from shallow water generally in to to deeper but not bottomless looking deep gutters!
Parking , access , wading , moving around upriver and on land (no padlocks on gates and newly installed stile/piping on barbed wire) was good .
A beautiful venue , the hayfields not yet cut and surprisingly very peaceful even with the A40 not far away.
Nothing happening with any fly , prospected with a cdc sedge and got some interest. If like me though you much like fishing an attractor dry in the pockets/slicks/fast runs you'll like this one I'm sure.
A good number of fish cruising and sipping on no see ums in the glassy tail water of quarry pool late on. I told myself to keep walking but you know how it goes!! It was fun trying, a fab pool for sure.
O.29m on the Trallong gauge, looked perfect.
Very much looking forward to more of this !

I found it difficult today, next to no fish rising, managed two on nymphs, sunny and showers with a strong saw wind.
