A beautiful stretch of the Usk with plenty of fishable water. Despite prolific hatches very few rising fish and it proved a very frustrating day. Just one lovely fish between 2 of us but it probably says as much about the fishermen as the fish! We will definitely return. 1 x 14" BT on a gold head PTN.

Nice beat but lots of barbed wire to get over from field to field. I'm sure access could be made easier rather than having to wade around. Low clear water so challenging but if you got the right riffle you could get fish euronymphing. Rainbow warrior the top pattern. Despite huge fly life no fish rising consistently even as the sun went down, and only one slashy rise to a dry all day.

A nicely varied stretch of water with lots of fishy features. 5 minutes from the A road lay-by to either bottom end or midway access. Work your way around, over or under the barb wire that’s attached to most gates and stiles.
Tried nymphs and spiders first couple of hours for no takes until a very quick rise in fast water prompted the dry fly option. Stuck with dry for the remaining 5 hours.
Insects in good numbers above the river all day. Plenty of very quick takes on cdc parachute, small klink most missed but 4 landed , best a lively one pounder, the quick riser mentioned earlier.

I had an amazing day on the water! I started around 12:45 and quit around 19:45. Caught fish on small perdigons, sulphur nymphs, crane fly larva and some Pennsylvania “secret flies.” Trout were also rising in some of the runs. Lightly weighted nymphs cast over these fish work almost every time. Caught some really nice fish as well.

Very tough fishing today. Not much hatching - the odd mayfly and caddis but just not enough to get the fish feeding, very few rises or other signs. Those we did see were mostly small fish rising to tiny flies - we only had about a dozen bites all day and most of those were on tiny patterns, often in slower water making presentation difficult, and difficult to hook - only one small trout caught. Had one other take during a brief mayfly hatch, was attached to a very good fish of 18" plus for nearly a minute, when suddenly the hook came adrift - not a good hook-up. Frustrating - one of those days! Still lovely to be out, this is a beautiful beat - thanks!
