Had several rises to dry fly but blanked. I'm a novice river angler, but determined to try the Usk again as it is a stunning location.

Fished from just after 3 p.m. until 10 p.m. River in good condition and mayfly were hatching sporadically. Some good fish moving but raining on and off and hatch never really got going. Had one or two offers on a Tups and mayfly patterns but failed to connect apart from one small brown of about 8 inches.
Also tried various nymphs but to no avail. First time fishing the beat but would certainly like another go!

Quiet day on the river, not much hatching and very few fish rising. This was my first day fishing in about 18 months so i'm a bit rusty, i'm sure a better angler could have made more of the day but i found it a tough one. Only one fish netted; a little 7" BT caught on a spider pattern fished upstream, i couldn't get a take to any dry fly. River was at a good level (0.29m on the Brecon gauge), coloured but clear.

Started late due to the lightening river coloured up for a few hours then cleared again. Most fish taken on nymphs with several missed on the dry.

A very (very) wet day and a bit cold. But there were a few small hatches and we caught 3 and missed a few more. (1 about 1lb the others a bit smaller) All caught on dry flys rather than nymphs.

A tough day, bright sunlight, not much rising and a considerable array of kids, dogs and sticks. I was pleased with 4 fish.

Clear bright, plenty of fly not a deal of interest, river approaching summer levels, NZ style most productive in faster water with the nymph taking most. 4 rods.
Wading is pretty good for an Usk beat. The biggest problem with access is whilst out of the water, don't tackle up until you are on the banks as the steps down to the beat are overgrown risking rods, be prepared to limbo under fallen trees. Old men with stiff back will struggle. Much of the water towards the top end is inaccessible due to dense willow. Our fourth visit therefore can't be a bad water, £35?
