River came up overnight by 20 - 24 inches dark brown unfishable for the most part pub was the better option

River was high and brown. Tough conditions but was able to poke a few out the margins.

4 Trout

Tricky day but found a few honey holes which produced reasonable numbers. Biggest around the 35cm mark.

15 Trout, 4 Grayling

Such an interesting beat but a bit cheeky at times. Lost a big G on sedge early on and then had fun with mid-size fish with a couple of grayling in the 35-40cm range.

Wading staff a must for me. The kingfisher will keep you company. As Arnie says......I'll be back!

5 Trout, 9 Grayling

Cold wet day was not the best conditions but gave it a go. Enough water to play with but river still low. Access was difficult even with wall walkway and very very slippery underfoot, say no more. No luck this visit but nice to be out. An expert fly fisher would have caught. Being only my second visit it showed.

A productive session with 4 grayling and 1 trout to the net. All fish were carefully handled and returned safely.

We managed four trout and two grayling between us, and we had to work pretty hard for them. All but one were caught on dry emerger patterns and one on an olive nymph. Not to be 'that guy', but I also hooked and lost something very substantial right at the top of the beat in the head of 'Wall Pool' which nearly ripped the rod out of my hand and stripped 20 yards of line off my reel before throwing the hook. I'm not sure if it was a very large brownie or possibly a grilse if they're that far up the system despite the lack of rain?

With regard to the beat itself, whilst this is a beautiful stretch of the upper Wye, the river is fairly difficult to access for the most part, and the wading is incredibly difficult even in low water due to bedrock and large, slippery boulders throughout the riverbed. I wouldn't recommend it unless you're very confident on your feet.

Started cloudy, which was very welcome, but then the sun returned. Very enjoyable
