Very wet and windy but the barbel didn’t seem to mind. Seven nice fish between 4.5 and 9.5 pounds all on halibut feeder quite close in to avoid all the debris coming down. Not many fishable swims but the fish are certainly there.

Having caught 3 barbel in my lifetime, to come to the Wye and get 6 in an afternoon was amazing.
Hair rig meat , chopped spam in a feeder , started at 2pm , an hour in the car when in hammered with rain , then fished from 5 till 7 and basically a fish a cast , fantastic .
Chubby all around 4 lb barbel ranged from 5 to 8.

Disappointed with the canoeists and their attitude towards anglers. Not only did they snap line and drag rigs into rocks with the boat they also swore and complained. They spoilt the day.

Very dissapointed in the managment of the river banks. The access to the water was very poor. No visable pegs, lots of nettles, balsam and trees. The banks were high all through the stretch and difficult to descend. Some impossible. For 28 GBP this fishery needs extensive maintenance to provide Barbel and Chub fishing. Not recommeded. Will not be returning until I hear something has been done.

Fishing Passport Note : The Wye is a wild river. Undoubtedly fishing will sometimes be challenging. Low levels (and high) often mean that many swims become unfishable, reducing the amount of the beat available to anglers. The Wye is an SAC and SSSI, meaning the river and its banks are highly protected under law. There are, therefore, strict limits on what can be done to improve access legally. There will always be sections on fisheries that are overgrown, have steep banks or are in shallow/deep/featureless parts of the river. This can give the impression of neglect, especially if many of the usual spots are unfishable due to high/low water.

Left my pre conceived ideas at the door and it paid off. Shortened down my book link and baited accurately. I left knowing the swim still had plenty of bites left as I was clearly where they were feeding.

Well worth the 4hr drive to the venue, fantastic.
