The river was at a perfect level at this stretch after a couple of nights of rainfall previously to my first visit to thomas wood, the river was lovely and coloured when i arrived at 6:30 that morning with a lovely flow. At first it was quite a slow start only catching 5 chub before dinner time. But then in the afternoon it just came alive having another 5 chub amongst 7 barbel. What a great day. I used a small feeder with several different sized pellets in my bait mix. Just ashame u can only use one rod on this stretch as it is probably not always as productive on certain days. Definetly worth a visit though.
Fishing Passport note: the one rod per angler rule applies to nearly all day ticket fisheries let through the Passport.

I caught my first barbel ever on this stretch on Sunday.
I'm sure if I had moved further down and explored more pegs I may have picked up a few more bites and fish, but I was fishing a river for the first time and I do not yet know if I am fishing the right areas and my confidence is low.
A beautiful stretch of river, definitely wouldn't like to attempt the drive back up the hill if it was wet, my car struggled to get grip on the path back to the main road I'd say this could become a serious concern for some with smaller cars.

River running very strongly due to rain in previous days, lots of debris coming down the river, tried trotting a float mostly and a feeder later.
No joy on either, not even a definite bite from 8am to 2.30pm.
Tried corn, pellet and luncheon meat.

I have fished this stretch before but not for some time and was encouraged by the notes on the website regarding improvements for 2020. As we arrived, it became very clear that the majority of the stretch is virtually ‘unfishable’ due to lack of bankside access (everything is so overgrown). I get the wild fishing/nature argument but when the opposite bank is so well prepared for anglers this doesn’t add up - it’s just not been worked on. There were two fishable areas - both in the woods and unless you are Spider-Man other areas are off limits. All in all a hard days fishing for 4 chub all caught on feeder/meat, lack of move possibilities limiting the days fishing.

River was fining down after the rain at the weekend. Caught a couple of chub on barbel barrel pellets. No sign of any barbel.
This stretch of river had few swims and was tricky to leave up the track by car. I don't have an off-roader!

Weather and river conditions looked ideal. Started on the lower section of the beat without success. Moved to the wooded section and fished the bottom crib. Majority of fish caught on meat with the Barbel of about 5lb caught on pellet. Mixture of some nice Chub in the 4lb to 5lb bracket and Chublets of varying sizes. The others were Eels, biggest about 1lb 8oz

Bank access very difficult over the whole beat i could only access 3 swims 1 of which was already taken which i found disappointing , river was quite low , I caught 7 Eels some of which were over 2 lb not my target but that's fishing , Found the payment side on your website difficult to get processed so had to make a phone booking at a higher cost (NOT IDEAL)
