A very enjoyable days fishing river high and coloured impossible to hold bottom in main flow so fished near bank slacks, feeder and pellet for barbel luncheon meat for chub. I would like to make a point regarding some of the comments in relation to amount of swims and access, even though the river was high, I had no problem finding and fishing eight swims during the day in the first field alone. If I had ventured into the wooded section there would probably have been more and I expect if the river was at normal level there would have been even more swim choice. There is a gravel track down to the river it is not full of potholes the only problem being if it Was very wet I think you would need a 4x4 but in dry conditions it is fine, the Wye is a wild river do not expect manicured pegs and easy access.

Good flow on. Fish ranging from 4lb to 9lb 7oz. Lost two good fish to the willow tree a little way downstream.
Canoe traffic relatively light in view of the higher water.

Fished the castle cottage peg which is just before the woodland. Had 9 chub and 4 barbel. Nothing of any great size. Could aonly catch on sweet corn and meat and this had to be cut down to thumb nail size otherwise we couldn't get a bite, we moved down by the gate which has a rope to assist you getting down into the swim. Within minutes of casting out on pellet I managed to snag a chub of around 2lb. Couple of things worth mentioning first the boat traffic is a absolute nightmare and get wiped out by stag/hen parties or large groups of loud lads, this must surely need looking at as drinking bottles were getting thrown in. Second is don't except masses of amount of pegs as the pegs are very few and far between. Again for the price charged there should be more pegs dug out a d maintained. Lastly is the track on the way down if you have a valuable car or a small car please think twice as the track is very steep and very pot holey.
The best is set in a beautiful setting but the opposite side of the bank has more pegs which are well maintained but I believe this is ran by another club.

Access very limited and the world and his wife fishing the opposite bank to this beats bank. Not impressed at all and gave up after an hour. Wouldn't recommend.

On the river at 0630 first fish at 1330 five of the barbel were under 2lb in whieght one was about six ounces .one 53/4 pounds and one 31/2 pounds and a couple around 21/2 pounds . Chub were all chublets and couple of eels plus a few small roach . Nice to see young barbel ,but would have preferred to meet there older relatives. Best bait sweet corn again with hemp .As regards the fishery we found only three spot we could get to along the whole length . But on the opposite bank a plethora of spots with good access and comfortable places to fish from . I would not recommend the outlay we have paid for three days fishing and the cost to get here for what you get , I can accept a bad days fishing but poor access ,the river like Piccadilly circus ,and hideous music blaring from canoes is not worth the cost .
Fishing Passport Note : Having asked the fishery owner for information, Thomas Wood has 20 or more swims, some more accessible than others. Access in low (and high) water may be difficult and this is typical of many Wye fisheries. We are more than happy to give advice on which beats may suit specific requirements prior to booking.
