A hot & sunny day with the river very low - so not surprising that there wasn't much happening beyond the odd tremble. I was fishing a halibut pelt with a feeder, looking for the barbel. If the river was more accessible, I would have roamed around a bit, but the spots you can get down to and fish are few in the summer at this place. Lovely place to be in though. The drive down and back up would probably be a bit hairy without a 4-wheel-drive outside of dry summer days :-}

Cold wind blowing hard downstream all day. River still low even after the rain the previous day. No bites in the morning at all but the fish came in the afternoon to a feeder. Fished two swims hard all day for 6 barbel and one chub lost to a snag tree. Biggest fish just over 8lb.
A rope and some form of rope anchor at the top of the bank would be advisable as it is a long way to the water.
Usual armada of boats and swimmers but hey ho, that is the wye these days. Still a very enjoyable day on the river.

The river was at a perfect level at this stretch after a couple of nights of rainfall previously to my first visit to thomas wood, the river was lovely and coloured when i arrived at 6:30 that morning with a lovely flow. At first it was quite a slow start only catching 5 chub before dinner time. But then in the afternoon it just came alive having another 5 chub amongst 7 barbel. What a great day. I used a small feeder with several different sized pellets in my bait mix. Just ashame u can only use one rod on this stretch as it is probably not always as productive on certain days. Definetly worth a visit though.
Fishing Passport note: the one rod per angler rule applies to nearly all day ticket fisheries let through the Passport.

I caught my first barbel ever on this stretch on Sunday.
I'm sure if I had moved further down and explored more pegs I may have picked up a few more bites and fish, but I was fishing a river for the first time and I do not yet know if I am fishing the right areas and my confidence is low.
A beautiful stretch of river, definitely wouldn't like to attempt the drive back up the hill if it was wet, my car struggled to get grip on the path back to the main road I'd say this could become a serious concern for some with smaller cars.
