The beat is VAST! There was a lot of algae making things quite slippery underfoot. River is in pretty good condition and gin clear in the shallower sections. Access to the river itself is generally ok although caution should be taken as sone of the banks are slightly steep but easily doable if done slowly.
Saw three pretty decent sized fish when I first arrived but sadly everything I offered wasn’t even sniffed at! The insect life wasn’t as abundant as I expected and very little rising. I left just after 7pm.

i thought the chub were trout - they were rising on the surface - caught them on a dry fly.

I had two fish out of the rapids at the bottom limit of the beat first thing in the morning, one small and one much bigger around 3 1/2lb. My friend had one small trout put of the same stretch later in the day.
water very low and gin clear, lots of fish seen but mostly not interested.

Fly fishing the beat at Dan y Parc. Novice pair of anglers; water looked a bit lower than probably normal, but plenty of fish seen moving about. Overcast for much of the day with a decent breeze blowing downstream which made life a bit tricky for our inexperienced attempts.
Tried nymph for the most part. Nothing was rising and nothing was interested in our offers.
Lovely place to spend the day though.

One small trout to spider. Lots of fish moving but couldn’t work out what they were on. Note, access on left bank is impossible as I found out. Use right bank.

Lovely start to the day, some cracking trout and chub knocking about. On the dry fly had a bit of interest but no takes. Unfortunately after an hour or so I was asked to leave the land by representatives of the land owner saying I wasn’t welcome, I had no access rights and had to leave.. apparently the land owner is at odds with the Wye and Usk Foundation.

A few fishing rising in the morning, missed a take and lost a fish to a dry fly . The sun came out which stopped the rises so fished the fast water with nymphs and caught 5 upto 16 inches.
The parking details may need updating , was told by a resident of one of the properties at the entrance that you are no longer allowed to park your car by the brick fishing hut and pipe bridge and only park at at point M just inside the entrance gate if fishing the right bank.
