We were looking forward to our first session of the new season for some time and our expectation were high, we arrived very early on a cool overcast day, the river was slightly colored but very low and in much need of some rain, that said we settled in to our first choice of swims at the top limit of the beat, but despite changing swims several times working our way down the beat we could not locate those elusive Barbel.
Tried the usual baits i.e Bread, pellets, Corn, meat and boilies and different method but to no avail only two pesky eels caught this time.
Plenty of wildlife, Kestrels, Buzzards, Herons, kingfishers, the usual swan encounter and a family of small family of ducks the likes i've not seen before, tame and very inquisitive all the same.
Swim access was easy and plentiful, unfortunately the day was somewhat spoilt by the heavy boat traffic that was expected from previous weekend visits to the Wye, most were very courteous and made plenty of room when they could but always spoiled by the odd nutty wanting to draw attention to themselves thinking they owned the river and just intent on spoiling your day!
Thank you WUF for a great day, great surroundings, and we will be back soon.

This was a lovely stretch, again plenty of water to go at but much better access to the water than Thomas Wood. Weather looked spot on but the river was fishing hard, looked like it needed a bit more water on to pick the pace up...not sure if its just the lower Wye stretches (I normally fish middle) but the water clarity was also very poor...

I tried swims across the whole stretch - first field, into lower meadow right up until island pool (No luck!) - my dad sticking to the swim nearest the car (pump station) was rewarded with a nice barbel of 6lLb 8oz, fish was very long and lean, spawned out. He lost a further fish on a hook pull. We fished up until 9:30pm and I managed only one chub in the evening. Stretch does look lovely though and I would give it another crack later in the year.

Again access track down to the river is 80% fine, 20% not so good - dry conditions no issue but with a little rain a 2WD would struggle... 4x4 recommended to be safe

Fish were def down the bottom end in the fast water. Unfortunately the cows were too and the bull def wasn’t happy about us being there.

please see my comments on 19th June about the swims. Fishing wise it was Ok for a river that was low, I only fished a few hours and had a Barbel of 9-11 and a Chub of 5-12. Canoeists became a problem quite early in the day, managed to hook one but it got away.
