The river was still low and a murky brown like our previous trip to Lower carrots a couple of weeks ago.
We fished opposite the wood crib on the opposite beat. Flow was near standstill in the upper portion of the beat opposite the water treatment works.
We started at 8am and didn't get any bites until 3pm, the flow of canoes was probably the highest I have ever seen in the years that I have been fishing the middle and lower Wye, quite literally constant from 10am until 3pm.
Most of the canoeists were courteous and accommodating, but every now and again groups of Stags/Hens etc would pass in an inebriated state, making loads of noise, playing music, running into our lines etc.
Probably not the best place to fish at the weekend! unless early or late in the day.
Despite out trials, we did manage to catch some fish, including a Barbel on the cusp of 9lb, so by far from a bad day all told. Feeder and pellet accounting for the fish. The lower part of the beat also looked interesting with good pace, but as we had fed our swims during the course of the day we stuck it out there for the evening. Thank you to WUF and the estate for the access to the fishing

Just one angler fished all day as others couldn’t make it due to health reasons.
Had 2 eels and a barbel just under 10lb. Luncheon meat definitely attracted the eels. Must have seen over 200 canoes but they were all polite and courteous for a change! They stopped after 3pm. Fishing was tough but still a good beat and look forward to fishing it again when a little more water running through.

I had a really good days fishing. I arrived at midday which was unusual for me but unavoidable and spent the first 4 or 5 hours moving up and down the upper stretch without a bite. I waited for the canoeists to go home and then settled in to a swim nearer the lower stretch and had all 7 barbel in a 3 hour period. All taken on 12mm pellets. Smallest of the barbel was about 5lb and largest 7lb ish.
It really is a very nice stretch of water but I think I'll wait until September before I return as the canoeists and wild swimmers are out in force at the moment and its not even the summer holidays yet!

Not much water around, despite the recent rain, although there was a bit of colour coming through. Chub were attacking baits, but real bites were difficult to find. Kept fining down the tackle until a stonking bite developed and got cut off on the rocks - lesson learned!

Didn’t get as long as I’d hoped. Conditions seemed good with some colour in the river but could not tempt much. 1 chub and a couple of eels from the slower upper section. Other anglers were on the lower faster water so left them in peace. Will try the lower end next time as looked good

Fairly tough conditions, River was quite low. Fished from 6am through to 5pm. Tried all the usual approaches and kept mobile. Perhaps should have started at the island pool as it wasn't fishable when the canoe traffic started and was the only section with any real pace. Caught some nice chub but no barbel this time.
