River low as everywhere at the moment; but running clear. Some very slippery bedrock at the top end - so be warned !
Several small trout on nymphs and a couple of grayling. My friend caught 2 other trout on a dry fly (olive pattern I think).
The directions seem a bit off - there is no gate "immediately" on the right after crossing the rail track (as per instructions).
Perhaps the Wye & Usk Foundation could check the access description and update it as it seems to be inaccurate to me ?

Given the river conditions we decided to head up the catchment…. But even that didn’t save us the river came up 6” throughout the day … not a good recipe for the fish to be settled or for us to wade, which is essential on this beat.
There was plenty of fly life ranging from tiny sedges to mayflies and there were brief periods when the fish were rising … we managed to winkle out 4 trout between 4 and 15 inches. Might only have been 3 fish unless one had a distinctive body double!
The main excitement was when JB hooked a 4 “ fish only to find his rod bending double … it was seized by an Irfon whopper who posed for a photo before letting go…. The plucky tiddler was unharmed.

Just a short session before the thunder storms arrived, which they did.. Plenty of fly coming off the water and a few fish rising, although manage to bump everything.. (on other those trips..) First time I've fished that beat so as much a recce as anything. A nice beat with reasonable access, some nice long runs which with a little more water on them could fish very well. As well as some long gutters that will be well worth a look in Grayling season. A 10ft or longer rod might be a bit of a hindrance as there's plenty of over head tree cover.
Certainly a beat I'll be revisiting.

Despite recent rain the Ifon was still running low, and on what was the warmest Halloween on record I caught a few nice grayling off the top and lots of parr too. I love the Irfon valley at this time of year. Thanks WUF.

8 x grayling 10-14 inches, 11 x out of season trout 6-15 inches, wet flies, mostly Red Tag. A dark day with a big wind blowing, though warm. The Irfon has been fishable since yesterday, although there is still a big push of cold water coming down and a million leaves in the river to snag your flies (don't try and cast them off; your leader will turn into a birds nest). Not much rising and not much doing with the dry fly. A client did better at Cefnllysgwynne yesterday with a dozen to 16 inches.

Unfortunately nature got the upper hand today. It was very windy and rained all afternoon. The water was very low, especially on the lower section of the beat. This section was also extrememly difficult to wade, studded boots and a wading stick are an absolute must have. The top section has some amazing dry fly flats, but the cold weather did not allow for any hatches.
One highlight, was the visit of a rather big Otter, which I am sure scared away all the fish. A very peaceful surrounding and I can only image must be a fantastic days sport in the right conditions.
