Had a few small takes in the wier, the river was very , very low, should have not bothered really, however, the river was too far away to have a look before booking. My friend joined me and he fishes for wales, we both didn't see a fish all day. Refund would have been the better option for us. Lovely river though.

Fished the afternoon and early evening - 3 trout on dries, biggest two c. 11". Not a great deal hatching, some small dark mayflies, caddis and willow flies . Of those it was the mayfly which worked - all caught on a size 18 Iron Blue pattern, and that was the only thing they would look at all day. These trout are so picky they are better at identification than me, so I would guess the mayflies were indeed iron blues! :D Had one other slow, gentle rise, didn't see the fish but that might have been bigger - unfortunately I made the classic error of being over-excited and striking a fraction too early, not hooked and he would not rise again!

Saw a cormorant fishing down a couple of pools, and a goosander in another - I generally don't mind natural predators but two of those big fishing birds in these smallish pools was a little concerning! Still, the trout are here. Beat was looking really beautiful apart from a half-eaten bag of fish and chips which some complete moron had lobbed off the bridge into the shallows... I couldn't leave the river like that so retrieved and stuck it in the nearest bin. Honestly who could do that to one of the most scenic sections of the Usk (or indeed Wales in my book!)... Maybe a water company boss who just came down on holiday?

More than good to be back on this stunning beat with all of its varied water types, baking hot out in the fields but much much cooler down in the river with all the lots of welcome shade!
Water was fairly low and very clear and the riverbed was pristine still.
Fished mid afternoon till late (with an interlude to dry out and swap waders following a dunking ! Just a proper billy blunder moment it was though, the wading was just fine really ..none of the Wye teflon algae here!) and it was quiet on top for sure mostly and they werent really interested in any prospectively cast dry terrestrial pattern.
There where a number of small fish active in the first big corner pool below the bridge but too fast on the take for me today and a good fish showing a bit at the head of the long gutter just below that . I put him down pretty quickly though unfortunately!
Things picked up a touch once the sun had dropped with some fish topping in some of the slow glides, just to the no see ums though. No spinner about in the evening or sedge late on.
Happy with the 3 decent to good fish to hand and the glide immediately below the bridge and the next one down had the most amount of fish moving late on. They where a bit fussy though! A drab shortshank 18 F fly got some interest and cdc sedge once they got bored with that.
The bigger fish usually hiding away in the waterfall pool didnt drop back to under the bridge late on today. Another time...
The Kingfisher and Dippers where very busy.Lovely.

2 small trout caught and released in riffle run downstream of bridge.
Tricky beat with tight casting. Good fun!

Very hard today on a very low and clear river. Trout very spooky and hard to find!
Saw a large Brown take a large sedge in the run off from the weirpool but it did not come up again despite my best efforts in the area. Caught 3 on size 18 F-Fly black with natural cdc for wing. After finding a few risers in a nice pool lower down the beat from bridge.

As ever, fabulous bit of secluded fishing.

Difficult day to start weather was intermittent rain showers the sun briefly showed . The lower section below waterfall/bridge was up and coloured when I arrived but started to clear a bit later in day. The feeder stream just above waterfall was raging and chucking heavily coloured muddy water into the river but had cleared by time I left.
Only saw one trout rise and ended up catching 9 mainly quite small Browns on nymphs and had 4/5 slip the hook before I could net them.
Enjoyable day but hard work . due to condition of river no doubt caused by the recent heavy rains.
