Beautiful location but no fish spied or caught all day, although we both had to leave before the evening. Neither nymphing or prospecting with a dry fly worked for us today.

Stunning scenery, a truly beautiful part of the Usk. Lots and lots of fly on the water, but not one rise seen all day. All fish taken with nymphs, lost a couple of small trout in the fast water.

Caught five trout between us, the biggest a real whopper for Dom. We forgot our scales but it was 21.25" long - in stunning condition too, estimate it would have weighed about 3lb 8oz. All caught on nymphs. There were sporadic, small hatches of mayfly and caddis, plus a few big stoneflies on the banks, mostly late morning and early afternoon and that was when the fishing was best. Only one or two rises all day though - definitely a day for the nymph. Other fish ranged from 1/2lb to 1lb. Lost a few others too trying to get them across to net in the fast water. Challenging but rewarding fishing. We haven't fished here for a few years, and I've fished very little in the last three due to fatherhood so it was great to get out again (despite a bad leak in my waders due to my little daughter's pet rabbit XD), we shared a rod for much of the day. The beat was absolutely stunning, lots of wood anemone and celandine out on the banks and a dipper flitting up and down the banks - wonderful just being there during the slow spells. Thanks for a lovely day out which will live long in our memories - will email you a few photos of the big one!

A challenging beat but it was very cold and there was no fish activity. It would be worth warning anglers that the parking outside Pantyscallog House is very limited - we parked just before the house near a new wooden gate.

No action on the dry, so both trout to copper head mary nymph, small but feisty. Pretty part of the river.

Not a great day out but thats down to our lack of skill, first pool we tried in the middle of the fishery, as we were not sure where to start,we disturbed an Otter which went off down stream and 3 young Goosanders which splashed their way upstream,it seemed that the Gods were against us from the start. However we did winkle out 4 small Trout which we returned. We love this beat for its variety and will return, there must be good fish here somewhere ,as we were leaving a Cormorant landed in the Falls pool.We scared it off but it will only cause problems elsewhere.
Thanks T and B for a day when 2 brothers could unwind and chat in beautiful surroundings

Very stormy day, with rapidly rising coloured water. Didn't fish for long.

River was high but clear. Rain was torrential and the idea of hot drink and sofa drew me home rather quickly. Nice beat, worth a visit when other beats are high and colured.
