River was low, no fish caught, beautiful stretch of water to spend 5 hours. Sat and watched otter below the bridge, near the end of the beat.

Only fished for 3 hours in the hottest part of the day so I was happy with the one, good conditioned 8 inch trout that took a size 18 cdc shuttlecock emerger. Also lost a decent fish above the falls which I had stalked for 20 minutes. Two or three other small fish missed that slashed at the dry. I concentrated mainly on nymph fishing in the faster runs and was surprised not to have any takes at all.
First time back to this beat in several years. I'd forgotten what a stunning piece of river it is.

Had a lovely start to the day catching and releasing a very shiny fish, then had tackle disaster at the furthest point from my pick up spot. This meant I had a considerable walk in my waders to get back to base, by the time I reached sanctuary I was out on my feet and it was not even lunchtime. I showered, took a handful of painkillers and crashed out. 20 minutes fishing, 2 hours walking, feeling like death I thought angling was supposed to be relaxing.
On the fishing front the river was up and carrying a good bit of peat stain coming from the Hydfer a couple of miles upstream but the river looked really nice I will return soon with replacement kit and have another go.

Very low water. Despite a trickle of fly life I didn't see a single rise all day. No joy with either nymph, spiders or dry. Amazingly I even got bothered by canoeists this far up with 28cm on the Trallong gauge. To be fair they were very polite and as a small family party weren't aware of the arrangements so hopefully it will count as an educational experience. A very pretty beat with good access which despite some A40 traffic noise I would definitely return to at higher water.

Weather dry cloudy chilly nw wind. Water clean good flow. Fly movement ,good hatch Ldo, grannom and a few march brown. No movement from fish. A very difficult beat to fish. Wading and access for much of the beat very difficult and not for the aged, infirm or the faint hearted. Felt soles a must. We three old boys tried hard but came away blank with not so much as an offer. Nice day watching the wildlife.
