What a beautiful beat! Didn't see any fish rising so spent my morning nymphing instead. No joy at all, unfortunately. Thanks to the owner for his helpful advice. I look forward to coming back here in the future.

Lost two fish on nymphs. All sorts of flies hatching right along the beat, never saw a fish rise. A gorgeous piece of water but if you want to fish dries then maybe look elsewhere

Last day of the season already, managed to catch and release lovely Sewin very early on,then as the rain continued we struggled as the river turned into a leaf filled Cocoa soup, we probably got in about 35 mins of fishing before the conditions became impossible, the difference between this and our last visit was startling. We sheltered from the rain in the woods below The Rocks for a short while, watching as the river rose higher, we struggled up to the Bridge there would be no chance of seeing the Otter today unless it had a canoe. We walked up to the falls which was roaring through, the rain continued to fall, there must have been one hell of a lot of rain falling in Crai today. My wife's grandfather who farmed in Crai all his life called it "the piss pot of Wales". Today that description was spot on. We walked up to the junction with the Crai, we looked at each other and just laughed at the conditions. We strolled back to the Falls which was now even more impressive, we were definitely Washed Off.
We will try again next year, as with all countryside sports you take what the weather gives you on the day. We make no complaints, we took a punt on it and lost. We've been on pheasent shoots in worse so no worries.

Stunning day on a beautiful beat, water like crystal, very cool start to the days fishing. We saw no sign of life in the first few pools then as the temp rose B caught a lovely trout while I was having a pit stop, he thought it may have been a sewin but without me to see it it's going down as a trout. Whilst stood in the shade below The Rocks we saw several Salmon making their way up river, one even going up the small falls. We fished The Coffin Pool to no avail despite seeing at least 5 Salmon in there.
We also watched a young dog otter gently rolling about on the surface of the pool below the bridge. B caught a stunningly beautiful Brown trout of about 3 1/2lb above the falls it was a joy to fish the river without constantly removing leaves from hooks, shame the salmon didn't want to play as every move would have been visible in the clear water.
PS message for owners am still trying to find the photo of The Hunt, it may be with my Bother in Law in Leeds, there is no spelling mistake in this message.

Good day out, river very high on arrival 6.45 but we gave it a good go, only made contact with a few trout and saw no Salmon, despite sitting near the falls during our lunch break.
The river fell away during our time on it but was still high and coloured when we quit, however we thoroughly enjoyed our day and our pre-lunch chat with the very pleasant owners. Only saw 1 cormorant all day and no mergansers or goosanders which was a nice change, JT returned to Luton a more relaxed man after his short break,he said to recommend the Usk and Railway and the White House[both in Sennybridge]to anyone fishing in the Upper Usk Valley.

I have had this beat on my to do list for quite a while now so thought it about high time to see what its all about before the end of another gone too fast trout season!
I now see that I have been missing out on the fun.
Stunning is the word , that is of you like a touch of the dramatic in your fishing with waterfalls , fast runs (lots of), deep gutters etc and a real wild feel to it all !
Fished my favoured way of a speculatively cast dry in to the pots and runs etc and didn't tempt any fish from the depths. A rod who can fish a heavy nymph effectively could do very well here I guess .
There where a few risers in the first longish pool downstream from the road bridge (quite a few fish here by the way and at the bridge too ) that looks like its from a fairy tale book. Think they where on needle flies as some where on the wing and very picky but managed to convince a couple to surrender to a tiny parachute Adams. Beautiful and hard fighting fish.
Lost what may have been a PB for me a way further downstream after if want airborne and threw the hook but it was a golden slab of a fish all right, won't forget that in a hurry ! Another slab of fish was rising in same pool but put that down promptly as was a nervous wreck after my loss. Should have waited for the shakes to subside...
Thanks WUF for making this available, am planning next seasons sorties already and didn't even make it above the bridge today!
