Hell of a walk but it was definitely worth it. 30+ chub to 5lb on trotted meat and bread plus 1 eel that I could have done without.

Not a sniff of a barbel although it looked perfect.

Very promising conditions. Nice pace, bit of colour, possibly a little low. Cloudy most of day, with a few sunny intervals.
First fish came after about an hour, and one missed bite. Smashed rod off rest, could only have been a Barbel. Good fight. Fish in superb condition, probably just under 7lb.
Second fish about a hour later. Smaller, but still quite a fight. Probably around 3lb mark. Again, in lovely condition.
Both fish fell to ledgered Halibut pellet.
Angler on beach on opposite bank was very successful, taking lots of Chub on trotted bait, and then ledgering. He had one good Barbel.
Pleased, because recent reports seemed to suggest Barbel were proving very elusive here. Fair to say, they're present now.
Lovely stretch. Will return before Autumn.

Lovely stretch of water. Pleased to land 3lb Barbel (feeder and Halibut pellet) fought like a tiger. Other anglers on opposite bank catching plenty of Chub. Will definitely return. Rather confused by access further upstream from Fisherman's Hut field. Bank seemed very overgrown, and no obvious path to follow. Does map need updating?

Another tricky day. Lucky stones was up about two feet and rising making it tricky to cast and strike.

I chose to leave my feeder rod at home in order to fish the bolo float for the first time. I was delighted to catch a 7lb barbel on the peg nearest the hut. I missed more fish than I hooked. This is a beautiful beat, but it's becoming quite overgrown. No one should come expecting a comfortable peg.

Favourable conditions although lower level than expected, fish taken on meat with feeder and bread on the float from the wooded section and the field below the woods, unfortunately the Barbel failed to show. Have fond memories of Fownhope but at 74 I think that is my last "Up and over".
