Went over the hill and tried the two wood swims very difficult fishing here with the bank access ok if you are prepared to stand up all day, which we were not so moved swims the fish were not playing ball as no barbel caught which is what we came for but caught 9 chub of which one was 5 lbs I am sure the wind had a effect on the fishing plus the river needed some more rain/ water as not much flow.

2nd day of 2. With the fishing not feeding early we moved around the beat and mid morning got into the fish. Same tactics before and tried rolling meat which was great fun for the chub.
A brilliant two days and will certainly be back. The Green Man in the village looked after us handsomely. Will 100% be back. A treat to fish such an amazing river in such a beautiful area.

1st of two days on a beautiful stretch of river. Barbel coming out at regular internals from all along the river, which was slightly coloured and pretty perfect. 8mm Pellet on a band and Halibut ground-bait worked best in a feeder. Biggest was just over 8lb and had chub consistently up to 4lb.
An amazing days fishing in an amazing place. Dog walkers were all very friendly and canoeists never caused any problems.

Unbelievable afternoon/evening session at one of the best beats on the Wye & Usk in my opinion. This is a day that me and my Dad will never forget.
We got to the river at 11.30am and made the long walk round the woods, eventually settling in a couple of swims at 1pm. Before I had even set up my Dad had 3 barbel and the fish seemed to be seriously having it. We then caught steadily all afternoon until about 4pm when everything went quiet. A walk around the fishery to plan our next move was in order so we spent 45mins walking the stretch then returned to get our gear.
We decided to have another cast in our original swim and immediately were back into the fish. We then continued to catch all evening, somehow passing 30 barbel, then 40, finishing on 41 barbel, 39 chub, 1 eel and 1 shimano 6000 spool hooked in the edge inside a mankey old sock!!
Can't wait to get back to this beat in September and I just hope it fishes half as well!
Also had 2 mink run between my legs - they were extremely tame, one of them was sat looking at me trying to beg some pellets I think!

FISHING: A very hot bright day, 4 chub before midday then remainder of fish after 18:30hrs. All fish to meat or pellet, 3 of the Chub were Chublets, best Chub 5lb. best
Barbel 7lb 2oz. all fish in fine fettle, a joy to catch.
CANOES: There appears to be only two types of canoeist, polite and respectful of the river and fellow users or complete morons. We experienced a large group of "Visitors", who despite having the whole river to choose from decided to practice their capsizing drills IN our swim and took exception when challenged, unbelievable!!! Later in the early evening a couple of canoes lashed together being propelled by a very noisey motor belching out fumes and one of the occupants using the plastic personal effects containers as drums. Couldn't the hire companies be asked to issue some kind of instruction or behaviour code? Also, having travelled a considerable distance and paid handsomely for the privilege to fish here it was some what disappointing to witness a young man roll up early evening with a tub of maggots and proceed to fish the top field.
I just hope this doesn't come across as a rant from a privileged elite, it's just that this seems to be the complete opposite to what the Foundation stands for and is trying to achieve and we do feel truly privileged to be able to fish this beautiful river and hope we have the opportunity to do so for many years to come. It's just that this type of behaviour will put that opportunity in jeopardy. Many thanks WUF.
WUF Note : Permitted dates for the use of maggots on the Wye is 15th Sept to 14 March. Please report any illegal activity to the EA Hotline 0800 80 70 60 as instructed in the 'What to do if...' guide sent with your Booking Confirmation email

A warm but overcast day with the river at normal levels. Trotted bread and meat took most of the chub. Switched to legdered pellet for the barbel and a couple more chub. A very enjoyable day.

Enjoyable session taking 6 barbel and 15 chub from below woods at the beat limit. With a decent flow still on I was surprised how stacked up the fish were in this area

A hot and sunny day on the Wye. Fished mainly feeder tactics and caught from many swims. No problems with canoes but dog walkers on the top section a nightmare! My fishing partner had a dog jump on him from the top of the bank knocking him off his chair and nearly in the river whilst chasing a football the owner was throwing into his swim repeatedly another dog wiped out his rod, same group, why they could not at least go up stream or down stream of his position the owners said they had no control of where the dogs went!!!! Some people!!!!! But a good day was had fishing wise. Thanks wuf.

Very hot and bright. River coloured. Luncheon meat and hemp. Saw salmon leaping, kingfishers and mink. It's a fair trek up the hill if you're carrying heavy gear. Tranquility guaranteed.
