Two rods fished the top section of the beat from about 10.30 until persistent rain stopped play just after 3pm. The river was in ideal condition, and quite chilly when deep wading. There was the odd rise, but nothing really significant. However, the grayling were in the mood, and a fly cast near a rising fish often brought a response. We managed a dozen grayling to about 16" and 2 brown trout of 10" and 12" between us. Mostly on nymphs fished NZ style, but a few on spiders and also dry flies. Good day.

Started at the top of the beat and finished at the bottom. Occasional showers through the day and one longer period of rain kept us damp …but happy! The fish always seem to switch on after a shower. Generally there wasnt much surface activity but fish that rose were generally keen to take our flies.

A good mix of year classes amongst the grayling which were up to 19” … trout generally smaller although best 16”. Great fun on one of our favourite beats….

Arrived just after 9am with the mist still in the valley. Started at the bottom of the beat and worked my way up slowly searching the deeper runs euro nymphing. In the first gutter had a few tentative pulls but nothing stuck. The sun broke though so turned a few rocks and noted a few peeping caddis and small black nymphs. So switched to a green peeping caddis in the point and black and pink PTN on the dropper. Within a few cast had my first. Then the sport then continued from there.
Most fish taken from the deeper runs with a few missed along the way to the top of the beat. Packed up at 15:00. A great day.

Fish caught before lunch on nymphs before the sun got up after which point I broke off for the afternoon. Water temp was OK. Returned in the evening hoping for dry fly action but hardly any risers. Enjoyable day I'd definitely fish it again despite the dodgy wading!

Started on the river around 10am fell in by 10.30 ! even with studded boots it felt like i skied into a gutter, slippery is an understatement and that was before a beer over lunch!!
After that what a great day caught 4 nice grayling and one small trout on nymphs all safely returned, missed many more.
Finished around 4. A memorable day on more than one account .

Great day on a wonderful stretch of river, which has an excellent head of grayling and some cracking trout too. The bright sunshine didn't really affect the fishing, many of the grayling were taken on small dries but most of the better fish came to the nymphs. Certianly a challenging beat, with slippery bedrock and heavily wooded areas but very rewarding, if you are willing to keep mobile and explore as much water as possible.

Well, His Dad did say he was annoying: W.H. from Craven Arms got 6 to the net and AW from Ledbury managed one. For a change, AW wasn't the one that fell in . Water was deep and fast with low visibility after the rain. Tough wading. (Hence the bath). Only a few rises seen. No dry action.
Pink shrimp worked well for W.H.
NIce pork and egg pie from Wallers of Ledbury.

My first time on the Wye this year, and it was good to be back. The rain en route gave way to a pleasant day - cloudy am, bright sun pm. A pulse of water from the dams went through during the morning. This did not appear to affect the fishing, but made wading difficult; so much so that, in some of the faster runs, it was a struggle to stay upright. 8 Grayling on a Tungsten Endrick Spider from the fast water below the Gutter (the same fast water that I was struggling to stay upright in) during the morning. Nothing from the Gutter, but a nice symmetry in the afternoon, with a further 8 fish on a Klinkhammer from the top of the beat. A good stamp of fish - mostly the sort of fish my old mate Tom Dixon would call "about a pound" - with a couple of bigger fish thrown in

A word to the wise; there is a wasp nest in the bank at the entry point to the very bottom run. Oblivious to it, I slid over it, amazingly without getting stung, when I entered the river. I was a lot more circumspect when I got out
