Overnight frost, bright sun all day, low clear water. Thats my excuses for a tough day. I started in the bottom field and as expected failed to find any fish willing to feed, however a move back up to the island area in the faster water brought some interest and a hard fighting Barbel of 6lb 4ozs obliged mid afternoon. This was followed by a slightly smaller Barbel and finally a Chub of about 2 1/2lb as the light started to fade.

Lovely day to spend by the river but water now back to a low level after recent spate and barbel seemed less inclined to feed. Sport picked up at briefly dusk.

River was higher and pushing through a lot more than when I was here on Tuesday. Had to step up to a 4oz gripper lead to keep station in the middle of the river. With both the river and weather conditions results were fantastic, catching from the start and throughout the day. Started upstream of the first gate then switched in the afternoon to the bottom field area. ledgered PVA bag/pellet method with either pellets or 12mm boils as hook bait. Bulk of the fish were in the 5 to 6lb range with one gem of 9lb 2ozs.

This was my last trip of the year to the Wye, I've had 3 x 3 day visits this autumn and the fishing as been superb.
Many thanks to WUF for managing the fishing, you do a great job much appreciated. I'll certainly be back to the Wye in the autumn next year.

River still up although has dropped back from Sunday's rise, good strong flow and not too much debris coming through.
Fished 4 swims in all, had the first and best barbel (8lb 4oz) shortly after starting in the morning , the other 6 came in the last 3 hours. All caught on PVA bags/pellet with either pellet or 12mm boilie as hook baits.
Another very enjoyable day on this beat
