The planets seemed to be aligning: last day of a week long mild spell with near double figure temperatures overnight; the river dropping half a metre in the preceding two days; south westerlies and very little rain the previous day.
HOWEVER, 'very little rain' resulted in me waking to a foot rise which continued through the day, and the water was on the dirty side of coloured. 4 different slacks fished with a variety of baits and not a bite. Still a nice day on a beautiful venue.

Really foggy morning which stayed around the river all day, making it very atmospheric. Wonderful to be on Wye to clear the mind in uncertain times. Nice big chub kept me busy. Caught a surprise sea trout too.

I hoped that the rise in water temperature might bring the barbel on to the feed, but they were not in evidence. To add to my disappointment the chub were laughing at me, with numerous snatches and rattles on the rod tip but only a half-dozen decent bites, two of which I missed, three hooked fish managed to escape, leaving me with a solitary chub of about a pound and a half. Not my best day on the Wye, but good to be out, just the same.

Storm Barra still much in evidence with very strong winds that made fishing almost impossible. We managed a couple of hours fishing in the strong winds and had one chub of 4.8.

Here it is, December! Checked temperature at the bank, read 5.5 degrees, oh dear. Slim chance of Barbel in falling water temp. So targeted chub on the bread on lighter tackle. Had good day with a good stamp of Chub, biggest going 5-9. Blustery day but plenty sunshine and my mate didn't fall in this time.
