River was VERY low and only a few swims fishable. Settled for the peg below the steps on a usual summer river this is 6ft deep, yesterday it was 4ft and crystal clear. 2 barbel lost on meat feeder. A dozen big chub to well over 4lb, lots of smaller 8-12oz ones and a Perch weighing 4lb exactly that took a small chub and both were landed.

The Day began full of promise, targeting the end of a glide where the extremely low clear river is being forced around the left hand side of the island leaving a now dry bank of rocks that would normally be under water. My chosen method, a 2oz block end feeder filled with hemp and caster on a running line behind a 3ft hook link down to a size 8 wide gape hook, where a piece of SPAM, some 20 to 25mm in size was mounted via a short 'hair'. All fish caught put up a good account of themselves and swam off strongly after being rested in the net before releasing. All my fish came to me in the morning prior to the armada of canoeist and paddle boarders, many of who decided to stop off for picnic, refreshments and a swim in the upstream fast water on the rocky bank before heading on their way. Upon leaving one family capsized in the fast water sending the canoes contents down through my swim! By which time my swim was devoid of fish anyway! so home time for me! If I can offer any advice, It would be to leave the river to the canoeists and paddle boarders at the weekend and plan any fishing trip during the week.

Hot and bright all day, fishing tough. Tried most fishable pegs during the day. Fish caught towards the end of the day on meat from the end of the faster water at the bottom end of the beat. Other was an eel.
