A day of roving and trying to find safe access to the water in likely looking areas. The only accessible "swims" were to slow moving water and confidence was very low. One bite all day which I somehow managed to miss which summarised a disappointing day with no fish caught by myself. My angling companions faired slightly better but unlikely we would return to this stretch unless some swims were created for safe access.

Chub caught on various methods including 2 on trotted Luncheon meat at top of the Beat, looks wild and not fished
but would be worth looking at if you had suitable tools to clear the stinging nettles.
biggest at 4lb 11oz with 3 between 3lb 9oz and 3lb 15oz. No Barbel showing. 3 others were eels.

A blistering hot day suitable for sitting beside a pool with the drink of your choice not ideal fishing weather! No shade on this stretch of the Wye so really suffered in the heat. Managed a few out but retired early to the comfort of the air conditioning in the car. One point of note higher up the beat is a great looking peg lower down than Foy Bridge just below the rapids which has wooden steps going down to it but is all over grown. If you go to the trouble of installing steps on a swim that would be ideal in low flow conditions then why not spend the time in the close season maintaining it?

Weed was tripping the leads after five minutes or so making for a very difficult day. Even 5oz's was no match for the combination of blanket weed and flow. One Barbel caught 6am with the remainder coming at dusk. Thankfully, a few obliging Chub in between.

WEED and LOTS of it !
Great to be back on the Wye again but wow so much green stuff .
Fishing quite hard as is quite often the case early season. A short feeding spell brought most of the fish and then it went dead just when we thought the fish would have another munch but only 1 more barbel just before dark . Thanks to all at WUF and the owner who popped by for a quick chat.

We were only two anglers in the end as my other mate couldn't make it, but we enjoyed a good days fishing in mostly dry conditions. The river level was slightly down and moving slowly until the storm hit us at around 6.00pm. After that there was a bit more flow and the bites certainly became more confident. My mate caught steadily throughout the day on Cheese amd Garlic Pellet, but not Halibut. I had nothing until my last three casts, when I had three fish all on Halibut Pellet. Unfortunately, we had to leave at 8.00pm as we had to be home before our 24 hours was up! :-) As per usual on the Wye, the wildlife especially the birds were amazing and in abundance!
