First time on the Taff and some lovely water to go at. The only disappointment was the hideous amount of rubbish littering the banks and bed. It is such a crying shame that with the heavy industry now gone and water quality restored that there is still so much human derived waste blighting what should be an absolute jewel. Fishing was very tough and we couldn't really blame the conditions but low pressure, a little flush through and some cloud would have helped. I would have thought a fish or two could have been intercepted on a speculative nymph but no such luck. A very sparse hatch of olives at mid day was insufficient to drag any fish to the surface, other than one lone individual which rose three times, the last time to my C fly but I conspired not to disturb it with my hook! I will be back.

First time on the Taff (near Merthyr Vale). If you can look past the ubiquitous littering, it is a pretty river and certainly looked 'trouty' yesterday. I was quite hopeful as the temperature had picked up from the previous day and there were plenty of olives about. However, in the 3 hours I was there I didn't see a rise . Tried my best with the duo as well but to no avail. Might be worth coming back here with a guide sometime, as I've heard such promising things about the Taff.

Fished upstream of Pontygwaith Bridge. Lovely weather, bright and warm with no wind. A few Large Dark Olives and March Brown's coming off when we arrived but the hatch very soon petered out, no fish rising. Despite the rubbish a lovely beat with plenty of very trouty water.

It was dead quiet for first 4 hours. I almost accepted the fact I was going to blank today. Then of out blue fish on! And it was a decent one :) After several runs up and done the river I landed and released this beauty safely. This made my day. I caught another one later on but it was on the small side. Method: spin. C&R

Fishing was hard that day. Fish either was not active or very picky. I reckon :) After several hours I managed to catch 3 trout around 25 cm. Method: spin. C & R

PS Sadly I have to report that Taff river after winter high water looks like a skip. I found there bicycles, mattresses, cables, microwaves, toys tons of bags. The list is endless as amount of rubbish there. It's very sad as fishing in the Valley can be very rewarding. I presume it's all beyond control of Merthyr Angling Association but I thought I mention this as a warning to more "nature conscious" anglers and/or anglers who are hoping not only catch beautiful trout but also to admire nature.
