Two fishing rising and luckily managed to net one which turned out to be a fine 2lb wild brownie which was swiftly released. Caught on a yellow mayfly pattern.

If it wasn't for this fish it would have been a very tough day out trying to find the fish. There are lots of deep pools and sections which scream fish but few were revealing themselves.

Was so disappointing the first day we did not return. It is not rural fishing, nor idyllic.

I prefer to catch trout, not shopping trollies.

Only a couple of hours on the water. A great fish of around 3/4lb caught using euro nymphing tactics, with little seen rising. A tricky stretch of water to wade, but beautiful surroundings.

Mild and over cast with river pretty low and clear. No sign of rises so nymphed for a while but with no success. Around 4ish a few rises spotted so switched to dry fly and one hard fighting 12” Brown Trout taken on a small black F fly. Photographed and quickly released.

Only fished for a couple hours in the merthyr stretch with no luck

Very tough. People playing in the river. Someone worming. Nothing rising. Just one small trout

It was our first fishing at this stretch. My friend and I fished near Quakers Yard from 8:00 am to 2:00 pm and we didn’t catch anything. We tried many differents flies and nymphs without success. The place is amazing but unfortunately we found a lot of trash on the banks and also inside the river.

WUF Note: With regard to the litter, Merthyr Tydfil Angling Association work very hard in removing it from their stretch of the Taff. Unfortunately, it is a curse on this and many other urban rivers across the UK but please be assured efforts will continue to clean them up.
