Fantastic mornings fishing whilst scouting the river for an evening sea trout session.

Caught 5 beautiful browns on various dry sedge/caddis patters. Lost a nice sea trout too (on a self tied black winged fly #6 long shanked hook)

Night was a total washout, very gusty winds and heavy rain made night casting nearly impossible. Great to be out on the river hung it a good go tho.

This was my first time fishing these waters and I will absolutely be back!

Difficult conditions, rain showers and rising water. Four Trout caught and released all under 10 inches. All taken on a heavy gold ribbed hare's ear near the bottom. One fish rose to a size 14 caddis, but no other rising fish spotted. A fun day exploring different sections of a lovely river.

A Friday night (when working full-time) isn't ideal for exploring new water, but when Saturday looks like having enough rain to unsettle the river it seemed like the best option. I'm glad I went, as I now know that I like this water. In terms of the fishing, it was fairly slow - I didn't hear any sewin move as dusk turned to night, and while that can be entirely meaningless as an indicator of action to come I do find it reassuring. In the bottom pool I had a few trouty plucks and one solid pull that resulted in nothing. Further upriver I had a large fish follow to within a rod length and then turn away aggressively, I'm not sure I will ever not be momentarily startled by a big unseen fish erupting in spray at close range. I also frightened some ducks, received the curiousity of a fox and was sworn at by an otter.
I appreciate it's a bit different for association beats, but the usual pool guide found on most WUF directions wouldn't go amiss for those of us on the Friday night crew. As it was, I did have enough time to find a few likely looking spots and time in between to ponder philosophical questions; such as whether everyone who uses the word 'woke' as a criticism has a shared definition of what it means beyond 'stuff I disagree with', and whether conservation charities would fall under it. I suspect not, on both counts.

Great stretch of river, one wild brownie of about half a pound on a 2/3 weight rod to a grey duster fished upstream dry (returned safely). Low river, sunny and light wind so not ideal conditions but a lovely day.
Wasn’t sure where to park although I did find all of the access points. Do I park tight to these in the slight indent they provide? Deff be back next year as tried all day for a salmon but realised that I’ll need several days to stand a chance. Vince at LAA was really helpful via emails so many thanks.
