Fabulous conditions. Arrived Thursday afternoon and fished for a couple of hours on beats 3 and 5. Saw several fish but made no contact.Tried again on Friday with again fish showing throughout beat 5. John L, hooked up with a big fish tied on his own fly and lost it after a series of good runs. I think the fish we were seeing were travelling on and not interested but one did succumb to a toby on beat 6. A beautiful 17lb hen fish straight from the tide. Shame no other rods out to do justice to this estate. Will be back over the weekend before the canoes.

A somewhat frustrating day's fishing. Fished beat 2 - wonderful setting, pristine river, easy access to river bank. Nice flow, good clarity of water. Air temp about 13 deg C. In short - perfect conditions. Sadly, absolutely no sign of ANY insect life at all. Consequently no fish rising/feeding. Resorted to fishing blind with a small gold head nymph in all the "fishy" looking spots (and there are many on this beat) but didn't even see a fish let alone catch one. Only aquatic life seen was some 1"long fry in the river margin. Fished for 3 hours before a large herd of cows decided to come and join me in the river for a drink, thus bringing an end to proceedings. Watch out for the two swans that patrol this beat - the male especially is VERY aggressive at this time of year (standing waist deep in a river being attacked by a swan is no fun I can assure you!!) I will be back, but later in the year when it warms up a bit and hopefully there is a hatch going on.

Client who was Salmon fishing is only a beginner so it was more a case of getting use to Spey casting. I went Trout fishing and managed a couple of Brownies about 1 - 1 1/2 lbs + a couple of Salmon Parr about 6 inches in length.
Most enjoyable day, we'll be back!

We caught many very small fish which I haven't included as I would call them large fry at best but the strong downhill wind was more than a match for our 5 weight rods. When it relaxed to a breeze at times we could manage to present a fly and I really enjoyed walking all the beats. Some more salmon beats than trout, our chosen fish. But even though the river here is wide at times, there are a few lovely runs which look perfect grayling territory. And so it proved with a lovely fish of 3/4lb on a duster pattern on the top, which was wonderful after watching it for about 30 mins first feeding. I would imagine there are some serious trout here, but we left before dusk so would have missed the best fishing. And finally, a word of advice. If you would like lunch, the Boat Inn, serves a good pint and good food. However, if you plan on walking the bank in the afternoon, don't order the rump steak for God's Sake. Perfectly cooked to order, home butchered and beautiful but why anyone would want 20 oz plus of meat on a plate is beyond me. Salad next time...and there will be a next time. Good day for the purist.

Fabulous conditions all day, river at its best height, superb fly water, struggled through the day with no fish seen but perseverance paid off to a syndicate rod who reported a 15lb fish from lower beat 3 Saturday evening.

Conditions where perfect for the fly so it was a nice day out. Thanks to the Wye and Usk Foundation and Terry for the information provided.

Good water, clearing well. No salmon but two good pike both in early 20lbs reported to a syndicate member spinning from beat 2. River now receiving another good spate so we will see what it brings in a couple of days.
