Tuesday 19th June, the river had dropped significantly in the past 48 hours and had returned to its normal colour. However, fishing was very slow, with nothing caught until mid afternoon. 3 chub to myself on small cubes of luncheon meat & feeder, 4 to Tim on similar tactic. These came from section 3, end of island and under the trees at the top of the section. Thanks to Ian who was very helpful and was on time to open up the access gate to the fishery.

The river was dropping from about 6 foot plus over summer levels and still quite coloured, est 18 inches visibility in the water. Fished a calmer pool on beat 5, just after the bend, and caught 1 chub about 4 lb. Moved down river to beat 1 Lower and caught 2 chub close in by the near bank. Again about 4lb. All fish caught on a 1 inch square size luncheon meat. Also fished near the bank on beat 2 with no fish. River running very fast in this area.

River very high and coloured was too much of a challenge for us. We tried for a few hours in the morning but no good so packed up. Hats off to the rods on other beats who stuck it out and caught fish. The beat itself is great and Ian, who manages it, is very helpful. The bird and nature watching was a great compensation. Got very close to a pair of otters, I could of poked them on the nose with the end of my rod, and lots of interesting birds - Skylarks, Redstarts, Gooseanders, Sandpipers, Reed Bunting amongst others. Bill Oddie eat your heart out.

Beat 5. River at an ideal height and clear, rose perhaps 2" during the day. Fished through beautifully- even Locksters pool could be covered with the fly. Plenty of trout activity on Yellow Mays and the odd Mayfly. 2 fish showed. One draw on the reel but nothing on the lift (how do they do that?). 4 wbt and 2 Shad. A fantastic days fishing but-no Salmon!

Got to the river early to have an introduction to it and found it unfishable. Chatted to the guys in the office later and offered me a wash-off if things didn't improve by lunchtime. Soldiered on became fishable around late afternoon but could only attempt wild browns. 3 returned around the 1.5lbs mark. Other rod looked at the water and went home!

An overcast but not cold day we had planned to fish float and maggot until midday and ledger with big baits until dusk. We caught eight chub between us in the morning and six trout. The largest chub were close to 5 lbs. At about 12.30 debris started to come downstream. At first we thought this was clearance from an upstream bridge but it got worse. Huge islands over ten foot across with so much small debris in between that even float fishing became impossible. Ledgering was out of the question. It looked like a farmer upstream was clearing his fields of floodwater flotsam. We sat and waited until 4.00 and things had not improved so we packed up early and went home.
