very warm and sunny. River low and clear. Worked through beats 3. 4 and 5. so lovely to be on the water ... and such a lovely river. All made more enjoyable by the action we had.
Between us we landed and quickly returned 1 wbt (klink and dink), 4 oos chub (klink and dink), 1 dace (nymph).
Evening spent trying to connect with salmon which occasionally showed - no luck but engaging sport.

Difficult going with very bright conditions all day. Pesky trout would not look at my dry flies & I spent a lot of time staring into my dry fly boxes trying to imagine what they might be drawn to. Whilst doing this I noticed that there was a resident spider under the soft material lining in the lid; Every time I opened the box he 'popped out' expectantly & as I hooked in another failed flea he retreated slowly behind the cover. He must be getting a rough ride today.
The 'others' were 3 Shadd that took vigorously when I changed to a small size 18 nymph. I stopped at 3 not really wanting to hook any more. Never seen one before ... very interesting design to their mouths with a notched lower jaw, some beautiful spots down their flanks & an almost tuna-like tail. They put up quite a fight on light tackle.
Thank you WUF.

river very low and a warm sunny day, expectations not incredibly high. A new beat for me so a good opportunity to see get to know the pools and runs while the water is lower.
Saw a couple of salmon but unable to move them.
Couple of wbt (3/4 pound) and a couple of oos chub - all on or near the surface.

slight issue on arrival with two cattle in the secure parking area! left and returned 30 mins later and cattle disappeared. think this was due to someone not putting he chain over the metal gate allowing anglers access.

All small fish caught on a light Cahill on beat 3.

Had to finish early as cattle appeared in the field where the Old Court Stable Block is located and where my car was parked. It would be great if the Estate could gate off this area or at least let anglers know they are around - there was no sight of them when I arrived.

The stile for accessing the river bank just upstream of the stable block by the oak tree has a wasps nest in the boxed section at the top. They were not impressed when I tried to climb over it! I've dropped the fishery contact a note telling him.

The beats that make up this fishery are really lovely - and no canoes!! I saw some really sizeable Chubb and trout. And there was a very lively Salmon splashing around the top of beat 3!
