Rained all morning but river looked superb, just enough extra flow/colour. Fed three or four swims when I arrived and I caught steadily from 7:00 am. Stopped raining at about 11:30 am, and then the river started to rise alarmingly, within an hour all but 1 of the swims I had fed were unfishable, disappeared beneath an angry chocolate flood and the fish stopped feeding (only managed one chub in the afternoon/evening). The 7 Barbel ranged from 5lbs 4oz to 7lbs 2oz all caught on feeder/pellet. The chub all fell to the same method and were all around the albs mark.
First time on this stretch for me and as per normal I was not disappointed, thanks WUF.
Only saw two canoes all day and those passed by on the flood so quickly you could have water ski'd behind them!

River was a light chocolate colour and pushing through quite well. Between us we tried various spots from the end of beat 4 towards the start of beat 6. I lost a barbel at about 7am then had a chub of almost 4lbs at about lunchtime. Tom had a couple of chub of 3lbs+ in the evening but the barbel evaded us. Tried meat, pellets and paste. Lovely looking stretch and would like to have a go when the water was within my summer comfort range. Did see an otter, a mink, multiple salmon leaping clear of the water and an interesting variety of birds.

Started at 5.30am, river alive with activity, and had two shad and lost a salmon around 6-8lb by 8am, all from beat 3. No more action thereafter but fish showing all over beat 3. Frustrated residents, mainly coloured. Should have started at 4!

Water was low, warm and sunny day. saw one salmon at the bottom of beat 2, could not walk from beat 2 to beats 3 & 4 due to barbed wire, signs were non existant.
WUF Note : The barbed wire fencing has stiles erected at all the relevant places. Beat maps are issued and advice offered to anyone visiting.

We chose one of the brightest and warmest days of the year, which did not help the fishing, we had a few tugs and one chub for our efforts. The river absolutely abounds with fry at the moment and we saw trout and perch constantly attacking these massive shoals. This is perhaps one of the most beautiful parts of the Wye that we have ever fished and despite our disappointment on the day we will come back.
