Very well kept area of countryside , with some amazing looking shallow fast swims with clear water. Unfortunately I think this visit, the pace was a little slow for my style of wagg fishing and I couldn't entice any fish out from some very nice looking swims with overhanging trees. My first blank with float in 4 years. I will be back in August to try again.

Three anglers fished beat 4 from dawn until 8-30am. Methods employed were stick float and bomb rod with various baits including maggots and pellet. The barbel caught was 27" long and weighed 8lbs and was caught on the bomb with Hinders elipse pellet.

We fished Beats 2,3 and 4 but with only moderate success. We wonder if there are fewer barbel in these upstream stretches compared to further downstream BUT Whitney Court is set in wonderful scenery and it is a great place to spend a day.

River in good order and stayed very mobile, fishing all likely looking swims. Tried pellets, meat, paste etc but just couldn't catch a single barbel! Not sure if they have moved into the area yet as presume they would have been feeding as conditions looked spot on! Found a nice run under some trees and finally had 5 chub pretty quick up to 5lb. Fished beat 5, 4 and some of 2.

Typical Wye chub early on a pleasant day by river, then uninterrupted by any further action. Lowish water, bright conditions and beat confines with limited and occupied hotspots made for a disappointing day. Large number of salmon moving all day long didn't help!

What a difference to day one. Arrived on site and met one of the syndicate Salmon anglers who was very helpful. The telephone call to Terry had also been productive. With a little walking lots of great looking swims. The banks are steep which limits swims for those of us with mobility problems. But sat in a swim and started catching within minutes. Barbel to 8.13 and chub to 4 .10. We left happy when the wind started to create white horse waves after about 5 hours.

8 Barbel, 4 Chub
