A few fish rising early on then the showers started, brightened up again at around 4pm but the fishing was hard with a strong cold breeze. This is the first time I had fished this part of the beat and it is gorgeous with some great looking water. Will be back again soon all caught on dry flies.

Good day on a glorious stretch of river although the fishing was slow. Plenty of flies coming off the water but no fish rising until around 4pm, all fish caught on a klinkhamer. Maybe it was a result of the river carrying a little water from Saturdays rain.

Had a great day as I’m new to fly fishing, tried with nymphs in the morning with no success, then noticed a rise about 2 o’clock and caught all fish on dry shuttlecock pattern and March brown. Will be booking this beat again soon.

Excellent day, had the whole beat to myself except for a lot of pheasants. A dull overcast sky helped and a small nymph with a bright pink bead head accounted for the majority of the fish, on a French leader set up. Most were small with 6 around the 1lb-1 3/4lb mark. Thank you.

Very difficult day, a lot of the beat covered but to no avail. Bailiff on stretch side fishing has been very difficult lately. Few words and pics of the day available on www.Thetreetrout.co.uk

Between us we used various nymphing techniques (Czech, French etc.) with two flys. Purple seemed to be the most attractive colour.
Disappointing though as we came across 3 other anglers who said they were there practicing for a competition. Given two were from abroad we got the distinct feeling they did not have day tickets...which p*ssed us off to say the least!

Torrential rain the 2 days before did not bode well at well. We arrived to find the river 2-3 foot higher than expected and brown as Oxtail soup, with significant debris washing through. We could only find one area where access to the river was safe and 30 mins of trying to fish was all that was needed to head for a very early lunch and a trip to a nearby stillwater. Beautiful looking spot and fabulous surrounding which we will be back to try again in the spring.

river condition not good after heavy overnight rain, walked about 2 mile of the beat noting suitable spots to fish on the way back (a lot of it is unwadeable )more heavy rain started falling late morning and turned the river into leaf soup!. Only got to fish an hour or so, nothing caught. Very well maintained beat.

Beautiful stretch of the river Dee, too much water to fish in one day, so concentrated on the gravel runs on the middle beat below Coed Pen-y-Garth. Grayling up to 1lb (+2 small OOST) all very healthy and keen on small weighted nymphs with bright red tags,or purple/pink colours. A colder day than previous ones, river clear and at lower end of normal flow. Despite this grayling feeding freely in shallow as well as deeper water. A lot of fish in this beat, someone with more ability would have caught 3x what I did.Was trying to teach myself Czech/French nymphing to some degree of success. Saw no one else all day and am keen to return and explore the other beats.
