Clear and sunny skies, good conditions on the river, several trout rising to hatches but seemed unwilling to take a dry fly, 1 trout caught on pheasant tail nymph

Should have nymphed from the start but I didnt have a French leader and I thought it could be too tight to fling a duo around.

I set out to catch on the dry and the first cast raised a splash so I thought it was locked in from there, but didn't get sniff on the dry after that.

Fished the section from Rossett to the sewage works missing out the railway bridge since someone else was there and corn field since I was running out of time. It was on a mid-september sunny/cloudy day after recent rainfall so perfect conditions. Lots of sippy rises but they weren't taking anything nd were spooked very quickly.

A lot of the paths through the vegetation drop in immediately into pools, something I should have clocked earlier to set up a duo/indicator.

All the fish came from the sewage works pool, almost every cast had an anticipation of at least a nibble with the duo rig with a 3-4ft dropper.

First time here and really liked it though we didn’t catch. The rivers were Low as we have had no rain. Tried wet and dry fly. Suited nymph really.
Stunning place, idyllic narrow river. Great parking very close to the different fishing areas. Will definitely return

A short morning session upstream of September Cottage with the river running fast and slightly cloudy, weather was overcast with outbreaks of rain. Saw no sign of fish rising so the dry fly rod was not used. Targeted the Brown Trout on a French Leader set up with a bead head olive nymph on the dropper and an off bead GRHE on the point. It was tough to pick out the Trout amongst the out of season Grayling which seemed to be present in every pool. A beautiful stretch of river which I hope to return to one day.

Water levels were perfect but a stiff breeze. Used PTN’s and Spiders. First time fishing the river so it was all an experiment. Managed to hook into a small brownie but never landed it unfortunately it had other plans.

Amazing, wonderful little river, full of character and life. Water was low due to dry summer but plenty of deep pools left holding fish. Tried several different dry flies on various beats but to no avail - sun was shining brightly in afternoon which didn't help but by early evening there was a good hatch of duns. Still nothing coming to surface so I changed to a gold bead Czech nymph - after several casts I had a lovely wild brownie on. Fish fought very strongly and when landed was 14"/ 1.25 pounds and swam away strongly when returned. Lovely way to end the day on a delightful river.

This was the first time we have visited the waters. We found them much as you described quite difficult to fish except from wading in the stream. We noted some activity but no interest. We fished Rossett Weir to the straight cut section in the morning and then from 1-4 on the Straight cut to Griffin road bridge Section B in the afternoon. We enjoyed the day but not sure whether our lack of success was due to our lack of expertise or lack of fish.
