Only marginally fishable (with a fly), both in terms of height and colour, at about 0.9m on the Chainbridge gauge. I tried a fast-sink line and brass tube to no avail. Incidentally, the two salmon pools marked for the Canal & Rivers Trust part of this combined beat (which seem to be essentially the mill pool and its extension) are physically almost unfishable from the right bank because of heavy tree-growth, extending to where you are attempting to wade in heavy water and even over the presumed salmon lies. Some heavy pruning (some of which I attempted by hand!) is needed and would not be too great an effort.

Difficult day, fish taking very small midge/gnats and very wary in the clear water. Struggled until almost dark and then managed a few during a Pale Watery hatch.

A hard day. Water looked just right, but bright, hot sunshine made it a tough day. Very few fish rising, - all fish taken in the faster water throughout the beat, and all taken on very small PTNs or GRHEs. Really enjoyable day on a terrific beat.

A very bright day in low water made fishing hard especially as I had to leave by 6pm. One trout caught and several lost. Several fish seen lying at the bottom end of the beat in no more than six inches of water. Extremely spooky!

Lovely beat with very varied water and good access but wading as described. The ancient oaks lining the bank by the old fishing hut are majestic. As for previous entry rising fish on the lower stretch on arrival at 11am. Masses of small gnats and up wings of various sizes as the day went on. Fish taken steadily on various nymphs and a few splashy rises to parachute adams. Tricky wading to get into position to cover feeding fish and pocket water but managed to avoid a dunking! Later changed to dry fly to try and discover why the rolling risers were taking.
Small black klinkhammer was most consistent. Missed quite a few. 10 trout at 8 to 14inches. Really satisfying day in warm sunshine.
