A little local knowledge from the reception at our campsite (Pencelli Castle, two miles on the same road, excellent facilities) said 'go small'. All our small trout were caught on 14 and 16 size klinkhammer and grey duster. Nothing tempted through the day despite casting to rising fish, all caught between 17.00 to 20.00
Three trout in the lower pools of the beat, one from the pool below the canal aqueduct.

River in excellent condition with ideal water levels and plenty of fly life. Although very windy it was reasonably sheltered down on the water. This is now an all day beat with the two beats combined. Well worth the effort of visiting the lower stretches. Fished dry and duo taking fish on the nymph and the dry. Two from the bottom stretch of the beat and two from the pool above the weir. Lost one other and missed several quick rises. Had a close encounter with a large eel over 2' long just below the aquaduct. A very enjoyable day. many thanks to WUF.

Small nymphs and spider patterns proved most successful, - fish were taken using both upstream and down-and-across methods, and all came from faster runs throughout the beat. Best fish was just over 2lbs, and all were safely returned.

A bright day, low and clear, with not many fish moving but persisted with the dry to the odd fish rising. Wasn't helped by 5 Canadian canoes paddling down stream from the top bridge when I arrived midday ish. Then dogs swimming at about 6 after which I gave up and went home! It's a nice beat but think the signage maybe needs improving to try and stop this happening. All fish returned.

River low and clear, with a light downstream wind. Only sporadic hatches during the day, and no fish seen to rise. All fish caught on nymphs, all very healthy, and all returned safely.
