Lovely sunny day. Fished dry fly only and caught five trout on buoyant sedge patterns (Goddard, Rat-faced McDougal). Managed to avoid falling in all weekend until trying to leave the river today when we both took an unplanned bath. Very pleased with the state of the Usk though after a couple of years away. So many thanks to all those involved in preserving it

The river was low and clear and looked very beautiful. Weather cloudy in the am and sunny pm. Water temperature 12C, 54F. Wading precarious in places. 8 trout, 4 on dry flies, 4 on nymphs. The best was a terrific fish of 17", estimated just under 2lb. (Apologies for the old currency. Most of the action was before 13:00. Only saw 1 MB and one LDO ! Only 3 fish seen rising.
The track down to the river (in dry conditions) is now part of a field of wheat. I parked beside the canal.
Lovely day.

A beautiful day on the river but my is that water still cold!! A small flush of olives mid afternoon bought a couple of sporadic rises but nothing sustained yet. Both fish came to nymphs , think it will take a few more days of warm weather to get the trout truly moving.

Both blanked.
2 lads had set up a spinning rod just below the aqueduct, but stopped fishing when I challenged them.

Interesting water with plenty of features and variety. Struggled a bit with the wading and wind but caught steadily until mid afternoon. Mostly on PTN with 2 to emerger pattern. Fish range of sizes with largest at 16inches. A very enjoyable day.

Arrived late afternoon to be greeted by a cold howling downstream gale which deterred any fish from rising. The wind relented late in the evening and the flat part of the pool above the weir was covered in BWO’s. Fish started to rise everywhere, technically very hard but managed three before it it was time to pack up.
