A fairly windy overcast day with no real hatches rather a mixture of flies hatching individually.
A fair few fish rising but it was difficult to identify what they were taking.

River running quite low and not many insects on the river. There were a couple of rises on the middle flats, but the fish were not too interested in my fly.
Managed to catch a small trout at the top end of the beat. Called it a day when the sunshine came as the fish have no doubt struggled over the last couple of days.

Who would have anticipated a heat wave in May? It was even too hot for the fly life and no fish rising. 3 WBT up to 13" on dry droppers in the margins of the quicker water. Nice long lunch on the river bank.

Was expecting more water in the river which was quite low. With the blistering hot weather I knew it would be a hard day, which it was. Only managed to connect with one good fish on the upper part of the beat but can off. Plenty off olives large/small coming off and plenty of rises on the middle flats. Didn't try to approach these fish but a better fisher would have. Nice to get out though and had an enjoyable stay in Monmouth.

26C, clear blue sky, gentle breeze. River running clear but now in need of a refresh. No consistent hatch - just the occasional olive coming off the water. Not ideal fly fishing conditions but a lovely day for a picnic.
No success with PTN on the fast ripples; pricked a couple with a BWO in the deeper, slower water.
Fast water at the bottom of the beat unfishable thanks to a group of youths turning the river into Abercynrig Lido!

Fish took a mix of dries and nymphs although insect hatch was very sporadic
However river has recovered well from rain earlier in the week and looked to be in good fettle
Lovely beat
