The weather was sunny/cloud. The river condition was good. Blanked, tried every method and nothing worked. Not even any takes. Disappointing but just one of those days.

Early start, easy to find beat. Overcast and windy with the odd heavy shower. Walked the beat before starting to fish as first time at Abercynrig. Good easy wading, reasonable flow with a bit of colour, no signs of any fish or life coming off the water. Short visit but managed 3 good browns around 2lb on the duo before leaving just after lunch. Will definitely visit again.

I have been so unlucky this year.... I love this beat, but on this day it was near dead. No trout to be seen, other than the 'uncatchable' ones around the Llanoberry Pool. No salmon even seen, despite all the water. Caught about 6 salmon parr.
I did see some youths on the other side attempting to fish. I pointed out they were poaching and words were exchanged. They disappeared, but only as far as downstream, where I could not easily reach. They come here often I have no doubt. The beat should be patrolled more, at least on the other side where there is a public footpath leading to it.

Dry flies. Slightly muddy water made wading tricky. A very beautiful stretch of river. The no dog rule sadly means I probably won't be able to fish this beat again.

I only had time to fish for about an hour. One brownie of around 6 inches caught on a dry klinkhammer. I saw one other fish move, but I wasn't there very long. It was rainy with a bit of wind. It's a beautiful beat though and I will return when I have more time.
Directions were spot on.

Took three half-pound trout on a nymph and returned them in good condition. The best fishing was at midday, after which things quietened down. A very pleasant day though on a lovely beat.

Water coloured and we fished at lunchtime, so conditions probably too hot. Beautiful beat though and some extremely fishy pools

A great day's fishing. The weather was hot (25C) and muggy but bright and the water level was low-ish but not low summer flow. Didn't turn up until about 3pm. Things were slow initially but as the sun dropped a bit the fish rose steadily to the abundant fly life and I was able to cast to rising fish though some came blind from likely lies. I fished dry fly all afternoon and caught most on a grizzle grey duster. Most flies coming off were olives - some yellow mays about and the odd mayfly. Got broke on a beauty and lost another nice fish. All mine were 10-12 inches apart from one small fish. All were safely returned.
The beat is lovely - the photos on the WUF site don't do it justice. Had the place to myself all afternoon and felt quite privileged to be fishing in such beautiful surroundings in the shadow of Pen y Fan. The details provided with the booking were spot on and I was able to park within 20 yards of the water at the bottom of a field. Access to the beat couldn't be easier. Casting is unrestricted in most places and wading is easy though you need chest waders to get the best out of the fishing. Definitely cross to the bottom section and fish up from the bridge - the bottom section holds some really nice resident fish but they are hard to catch as the water is slick there and they are very fussy. I'll definitely be going back for another go. Saw 3 kingfishers, herons, dippers, bats, heard an otter - fantastic. Thanks WUF for making this stunning fishing available on day permit and so readily booked on your online system.

I've been very unlucky this season. Every time I fish there is a strong upstream wind... and so there was again today! It was rather cold, but there were still good hatches of fly including mayfly. The swifts were taking them from around my head at one point! My friend caught 3 reasonable trout, and I caught nothing... I don't know what is wrong with me... I hooked 7 and they all got off very quickly.

Great day but fish were quite fickle. Plenty of splashes and boils off the top at variety of flies but few hook-ups (or I was just slow to strike..)
