Sunny and warm with the River ultra clear and about 14” on the Llanstephan gauge. All grayling in the 8-10” range as were the trout except for one at about 15”. Team of three flies; beadhead red tag on the point, black and olive spiders on the droppers. A few olives around but fish as reluctant to rise as seems to me to be the norm on this stretch of the Wye.

Beautiful beat and great conditions. We had very good feeling about the day but unfortunately, as on previous 2 days, we did not see any salmon. One grayling on 12g Flying C was a huge surprise.
We loved our 3 days fishing on Wye and we'll be back soon for sure.

Heavily built slightly coloured 22lb+ cock fish from the Iron Gate catch at the bottom of the beat. It took a 1" black and yellow tube on a fast sinking sink tip. Took solidly on the inside of the gutter and a great 1st run, taking over 100 yards of line. Almost made it to the abstraction works!

After the shenanigans and subsequent AA rescue on Monday, I manufactured an hour in the evening to tried some choice spots at the bottom of the beat. River 1ft 9" and passing the all important 'B%$£^$Ks' test. Came close to first of season when line pulled away on the inside of the gutter just below the iron gate. Felt the weight, but the fly came free in the first bout of head shaking. You work so hard for the chance!

No joy, river is good condition, dropping nicely with better much perfect clarity but nothing touched or seen.

Three canoeist got in just above me, and explained to them that they should be there, river well below the red line. They pleaded ignorance as usual. Even after I showed them online the rules and asked them to get out , they admitted I was correct but carried on regardless. If I ever go to prison it is because I murdered a canoeist!
