A hot day with the water low and llangoed pool very green. Unfortunately there was a large family swimming/picnicking, for most of the day in the uppper section of the beat so I gave that a miss. Salmon were active in llangoed pool but the trout didn't seem very interested in the fly hatches so I ended up fishing the bottom of the beat by the sewage works. There were big hatches of grannon and lots of trout rising down there towards the end of the day. I caught 8 from 10-16 inches on a black para dry. I did notice that there seemed to be an unusual amount of lice and leeches on all of the fish and wandered if this had to do with the weather and water height or if the sewage works had some part to play, because all the fish were clustered round the outlets.
WUF Note: Freshwater lice (Argulus foliaceus) are commonly seen on fish at this time of year and especially when water flows have been low.

Fished the lower section of beat from water works up say 1/4 of a mile. All trout were fat full of mayfly averaging 10-14 inches, the grayling was a wee fella of 6 inches and the other 6 were shad all about 15 inches. Wish i had of booked a salmon ticket as there were 4 in the one long glide showing themselves every now and then one of which was a high twenty pounder slightly coloured .

5 grayling to 12", 4 trout to 10"' one salmon parr. Tried a variety of dry flies but no takers so switched to nymphs with fish coming to GRHE, beadhead ptn and red tag. Nice to see a salmon heading upstream and a brief glimpse of an otter.

Enjoyable days fishing and exploring a new beat to me. River predictably low at around 10" but still enough flow to work the fly in pools at top and bottom of beat. 4 brownies to 4lb on salmon flies and a 15lb pike from Llangoed pool on FC. A nice stretch of river and not as heavily booked as Rectory and will return when another foot on the gauge. Ah and not a canoe to be seen all day, the prime reason for booking above Glasbury!

Lovely days fishing, but sadly no Salmon caught. The river was perfect at this beat, albeit a bit low.
Very few trout rising. There was a small hatch of Olives and the odd Mayfly. My thoughts are that no Salmon are in this beat, even though there was a rise in river levels in the earlier part of the week. A sustained rise in water levels for at least a week is required. Dippers making their presence obvious on the river and even a Hare showed interest at my car.
Good day again Denis

Despite promise of some rain, the water remained very low, falling a little during the day, making the slow pull of the Llangoed Pool even slower. However, there were some trout and smolts in evidence there, and I caught a smolt and a salmon parr, hooking 4 others, and with my usual talentlessness, missed them all! DH unfortunately drew a blank for the day. He hasn't had enough opportunity to fish and familiarity with beats helps a great deal.

Roll on this weeks rain....

A cool overcast day with some light rain and the river running reasonably low for the time of year. I fished the upper half of this beat up to the suspension bridge having parked at the middle access point. Christening my new 4wt rod with 4 trout the best around 10". New Zealand style did for them 3 taking the beaded PTN and 1 on the Klinkhammer. Very slippery underfoot. Studs and a wading staff recommended.
If you park here be wary of fencing staples on the farm track through the field. There were a fair few of them.
