Another hot clear day, river low and clear. The most likely looking swim that wasn't occupied was the swim in front of the hut but unfortunately where no coarse fishing is allowed. Managed to winkle out a couple of smallish chub 2-3lb but no barbel until a more likely swim became available which I fished from around 4 until 6 PM when I had to leave. Had one barbel around the 6.5lb mark just before 6 pm but felt if I could have stayed more opportunities would have presented themselves.

The river was very low and clear and weather was bright and sunny so conditions not ideal. Monty the bailiff was very helpful and with his information and a bit of watercraft I adopted a roving and stalking approach as I was the only person on the venue. Used mainly feeder and pellet tactics but also landed two barbel and a chub on the float and centrepin using meat. A lovely venue, will be better when there is more water on. A very enjoyable day. Landed 4 barbel to just over 7lb and 5 chub to 4lb .

A bright sunny day with water level low - though not excessively so. Monty was extremely helpful in suggesting the best swim and a decent barbel first cast was indicative of a good day in prospect. However, this proved a bit deceptive as it was hard going from then on. Five chub all around 4 pounds before lunch (mainly on flavoured meat)kept the spirits up, but after lunch interest dropped off completely with only a couple of eels to show for the last 4-5 hours. The evening may have brought an upturn, but we'd had enough by then. A bit more colour in the water and a bit less sun was needed - or maybe better fishermen?

A lovely stretch of the Wye; we fished the lowest part of the beat. The river keeper was very helpful with advice, but unfortunately it was a really hot sunny day with no cloud cover which conspired against us. We did see 4 salmon and there are undoubtedly good sized barbel here.

First visit here so spent some time walking the beat. After appreciating what a well kept fishery this is, we settled in to a couple of swims. However this turned out to be the hottest day of the year so far and by midday the temperature was about 30 degrees plus. A couple of barbel and one chub were caught early on but from around 11.45 it was apparent that the fish were seeking cooler darker water!! So we decided to leave and seek a cool beer.
Our thanks to Monty and Tom who kindly shared their knowledge of the fishery and advised of the best pegs. We are due to return in September when hopefully the weather will be little cooler and we can make use of that information.

All fish caught on feeder or straight lead using boilies on the hook. Fed a lot of hemp, pellet and boilie to keep the fish interested.
The owner of the beat Monty came down and was a really nice and helpful chap. He put us both right on the pegs to fish and where in the swims to cast.
This is a super beat with really good access to all pegs and a range of different water types to suit any river and weather conditions.

Had a slow start put picked up after a few moves. Pellet feeder the main producer. River started to fall but still running high. Many thanks to Monty for his help and great to see the work he is doing to the swims will make this stretch even better. Thank you WUF.
