The tail of hurricane Frances was blowing through most of the day making fishing a challenge, however 4 Chub were caught on corn fairly close into the bank. Wind and driving rain proved too much to bear, so an early curtailment eliminated fishing into the evening, which was a shame as the river conditions were nigh perfect.

Feeder fished pellet - river coloured and up on normal summer levels. High winds, sunshine and showers made for interesting fishing. As always sound advice from Monty and a pleasure to spend time on this beautifully kept fishery.

Holme Lacy & The Elms is a very well maintained beat. Stairs with banisters, and platforms made for safe, comfortable fishing on a wet day. Flat track from church parking area to river. The owner and his team put a lot of thought and work in to provide a positive experience for anglers.

The Wye was up and coloured after rains. Spent the morning on the swim where the track meets the river. Lost a good fish here on corn. On beat-owner Monty's advice, moved downstream to slower water on the bend. More bites here, on pellet. Landed two barbel , 5 + 6 lbs and a 5lb chub. Tried meat but it only attracted an eel.

This is a premium beat. Compared to a number of slightly cheaper beats I've visited (where steep slopes + jungly thickets seriously reduce choice of swims) river access along the whole length is second to none. Well worth another visit!

Great to be back on the beat, catch up with Monty with is warm welcome and helpful advice. The River had risen over night and had colour, looked good, fishing was quite slow in the morning, but picked up in the afternoon, caught 2 Barbel , 2 Chub and 2 "Big" Dace first time ever on feeder and pellet tactics.

Another enjoyable day on the River.

This is a very well kept and maintained fishery, with very easy access to all areas. I started off with a chat with Monty, who it absolutely great, full of good advice, and very knowledgeable.

The river had come up around two feet overnight, and although it looked good, the fish didn't seem of the same opinion.
During the earlier part of the day just had tweaks from small stuff, however toward evening, had a barbel of around seven pounds, and a very nice looking chub which weighed in at five and a half.

Will definitely be back, perhaps when the river is in a better mood!

Lovely day on one of my favourite beats . Shame car access no longer possible d/s of the hut due irresponsible behaviour . Lovely to chat to Monty along
With spiritedly Tom. Greatful to monty for suggesting a move just d/s of the hut where I caught a nice barbel some chub and loads of other small chub and big dace on trotted corn. Friend Charlie happy in the ‘pot’ catching a couple of small barbel on the feeder with a couple of chub but finished strongly on the float with a nice barbel and smaller fish on float and meat.
Hope the effects of chicken farming u/s do not cause long term damage to the ecosystem. Swans also seem to be affected due to absence of weed. On another stretch some are leaving corn on the croys to feed the swans.
